If I have to see this pixie-faced, blue eyed, bucked tooth smiling assassin one more time tonight, I will shoot my TV! :rant

His mum went on the offensive a few weeks ago because apparently nobody is allowed to dislike her offspring.

If Tom Waterhouse knew what punters wanted he wouldn't be on TV.

I cant stand the whole betting thing. Its taking over.

And can u beleive they interupted the betting show with highlights of a leauge game

BUT You can't blame him for what's going on. His business is betting and if the opportunity is there he should take it. The nrl is the one who is to blame. They are allowing it.
You watch the footy show and its all about odds etc. bloody stupid.

I beg to
Differ. His business is growing astronomically. And he is doing what is allowed. Bit the NRL needs to stop it. It's ruining or going to ruin the game

He is allowed to do it, doesn't mean anybody likes it.

How can you say that people like seeing him on TV? In fact he has been actively smacked down in his NRL appearances specifically because the public didn't like it.

X2

I don't watch the footy show anymore.

I want to hit that guy with something hard. He s a complete tool :bash

The betting fiasco - children will grow up seeing the advertising inserts as an integral part of the game, not as advertising. This needs review, just like advertising of cigarettes has been.

NRL should really step up here and be like the NFL, NBA and MLB and not allow any betting ads on any of their broadcasts (they set the rules). They have to do this now for the sake of the games intergity.

As for Tom Waterhouse I noticed Andrew Webster last Saturday saying that Waterhouse got a hard time at Leichhardt for the match against the EELs. I saw a group of about 6 guys chanting Waterhouse is a wanker after the match were Channel 9 had set up to do their live post match analysis. Next time 9 are at Leichhardt last make the crowd 100+ chanting to get rid of him. He is a blight on our game and should be gone. People still have power so lets make 9 know we don't weant Tom and Tom know he is not welcome at Leichhardt.

Im no Waterhouse fan, but the League want his money & nothing will change & he is running a Business, so we are stuck with him.

You're right T-Rexx, it's not Waterhouse's fault we're getting bombarded with all this betting rubbish. The blame rests squarely with the NRL - Waterhouse just annoys me.

There are many people up in arms about this trend and they are making lots of noise to try and get it stopped (see story and link below), so hopefully people power will eventually win out and we can all enjoy watching the footy again without the overbearing intrusion of the gambling industry.

**NRL gambling promotion insidious: Piper**

Concern about the saturation of gambling advertising during televised coverage of NRL games has been raised in State Parliament.

The ABC reported earlier this week concerns from former Knights player and now gambling counsellor Ashley Gordon about the impact the advertising is having on those struggling with gambling addiction.

A Senate Committee inquiry currently looking at the impacts of gambling advertising is expected to put the NRL's in-game promotions under the microscope.

Concerns have been raised about Channel Nine's inclusion of high profile bookmaker Tom Waterhouse in its commentary of the game.

Lake Macquarie Independent MP Greg Piper has made a private members statement in the New South Wales Parliament registering his fears about how it is affecting viewers.

"What I've been able to do is put something on record about the insidious nature of this sports betting that's going on," he said.

"People are talking about it, I know I'm hearing about it all the time.

"People are sick to death of it, and it's not just Tom Waterhouse, he's certainly the most prominent one there, but people are sick of this intrusion."

Mr Piper says it is a major concern given the current investigation into corruption in Australian sport.

"This is taking it to a new level," he said.

"I don't think it takes a genius to know that when there's a lot of money being wagered in sport, there's probably likely to be some attempt to manipulate it.

"So, some of these people, such as the NRL, should have a good look at this.

"We've seen off tobacco, we're trying to see off alcohol with sport, but we've replaced it with sports betting."

The above is a link to a more recent story on the same topic. Sorry it was a little too long to post the whole thing on here and it has accompanying videos within the article as well. The NRL said that they've made changes to the way Waterhouse is presented during the telecast since round 1 because they agreed that the lines between football and betting were being blurred. They will obviously fight tooth and nail to keep him there though, it's worth too much to them.

The annoying thing is, with just a tiny bit of restraint the bookies and NRL could avoid the inevitable Government intervention. But they will go all out and balls to the wall bombarding us until the public are angry enough to support the Government stepping in to reign it all back.

I have an online betting account with Centrebet, I like a punt while at the pub, I dont mind hearing odds and margins at different times during the coverage….but jeeze they are making me hate everything to do with the gambling and NRL partnership.

Its like the pokie situation all over again.

Its growing, its on other RL programs, its on radio programs…."xxxx brought to you by sportbet"...."YYYYY brought to you by Tattsbet"

Advertising works.

They suck in young people with ''free'' bets...d/l an app to their phone, which of course would probably have net banking access too....next minute you have a TAB in your pocket.....and then they keep advertising, exotic bets...more advertising during sports which young blokes love watching with mates while loosening up with a few drinks....advertising works, moneys at hand, betting agency at hand, TV up in the corner of the bar......and the advertisements continue...advertising works...they pay millions, they reap billions

Gambling ruins lifes , i have known a bloke hang himself cause he ran his family into debt , very sad story .
Not that i don't have a bet every now and then but have control , but for others that don't it is not needed all these extra half time odds and the rest of the odds for games that keep coming up(and tempt them to have a punt) as mentioned above .

Even like Sportsbet , when you join they match your 1st bet ( correct me if i'm wrong) it's so wrong .
Our society is filled with gambling .

Very aptly put Frank, spot on. Don't mind a bet every now and again but the current situation with the saturation coverage is nauseating. It needs to be reined in but it won't be.
