Does it matter how close TPJ's manager is with a high up member of the club? He should be looking after the best interests of his client, and I'd be disappointed if that was the leverage that got us TPJ over the Dogs. We want people in the team who want to play for us, not because they are coerced into it by their manager.

Judging by all the missed signings, I’d hazard a guess that there aren’t that many..

This is how bad we are going with recruitment. I can tell you TPJ’S manager is very very close with a high Wests Tigers member and we still couldn’t get the signing done. This has officially confirmed that we are really struggling to bring high profile players to the club

I read it somewhere, probably on here, that we had given his manager an offer and the Dogs came in with a higher deal, he was hen asking for us to cover his TPA's, which I thought we declined? Though it was expected that he still may come to us, as we were his preferred club?

I think we also outpriced the Roosters as well?

If you are saying that is wrong, then OK, can you advise what our offer was compared to the Dogs?

Given the fact that we are missing out on any player we target who as any kind of alternative offer means one of a number of possibilities:

1. Our valuations are not realistic. It's all very noble saying we won't pay overs but any player is worth what a given club is willing to pay him.

2. The people negotiating the contracts are doing a terrible job of selling the club. This can't be ignored when a club like the Bulldogs who have won a handful of games in the past three years are seen as a more attractive destination than us.

3. Players don't want to play for the coach. Again this is something which needs to be considered but Trent Barrett is hardly the next Craig Bellamy so I'm not sure why he would be a more attractive coach to work under than Madge.

Regardless of any of the above this is something the club can't ignore and the Tigers management can't shrug their shoulders and say oh well, on to the next one. This is a critical issue now which is seriously affecting our future prospects of success and if it's not being looked at closely by the club then the cycle of failure in these types of negotiations is likely to continue.

I'm not saying it's wrong, i'm just saying we don't know. We may have paid more, we may have paid less. Probably only TPJ and his Manager know the true answer.

I just bought a unit with an offer on the table for 24 hours
I didn't give them time to have an open home so others could make an offer
It was a take it or leave it approach
It's worked for me twice now as I learnt the 1st time not to get played and used as leverage
Our initial offer to Pangai was probably the best offer at the time, but giving him all this time to field better offers works against you
Put your best offer in the 1st time and give minimal time to accept
If it's not good enough then move on the the next

I would go after Vaughan now in the fashion I spoke about above
Ask his manager what would secure his signature today/Tomorrow
If we agree get the deal done
If not then walk away and let him take his chances elsewhere

Nrl contracts are like an auction now
Usually goes to the highest bidder but also comes back to the terms

Maybe the club should have gone to $750'000 per year on a 3 year deal
But the 2nd and 3rd year in the clubs option
If he performs we take it up
If not the see ya later

issue with Vaughan is how he plays out his 8 game suspension as this was issued by the nrl before he was sacked by dragons.
Dogs are asking nrl is his suspension continuing now or does it only recommence once he is contracted which could mean he is suspended for start of 2022

Honestly, I think that is the biggest problem.

I can't help no doubt.

Maybe we do what we did when Sheens turned up and invest in our youth.Then
target best up and comers.... Like Newcastle and Ponga.

Latrell Mitchell realistically was always going to a top 4 club. We offered money he took success. Age old issue.

Pangai chose option B over us. I don't see it as being the alarming issue some do. I'd rather someone like Stefano any day of the week.
