Wests Tigers have lost experienced utility Joel Reddy for Sunday's opening round clash with Cronulla Sharks at Leichhardt Oval.

Named on a five-man interchange bench, Reddy suffered an ankle injury at training but is hoping to be back for the round two match against Manly Sea Eagles at Bluetongue Stadium on Friday, March 9.Tigers coach Tim Sheens is unlikely to name a replacement for Reddy given that he was on an extended bench and Tom Humble will provide utility cover in the backs.

The news is a boost for James Tedesco who had remained in some doubt despite being named starting fullback after comments Sheens had made about not wanting to play the boom rookie in round one.

The ankle injury to Reddy is a cruel blow to the former Parramatta back who turned in solid performances in his two trial appearances for his new club.

Such a shame that Reddy can't play, but I'm sure there will be plenty of try scoring opportunities for him when he is able to return.
