Referees

If you ever doubted the credibility of Rugby League then watch the replay of the St.George and Parramatta game last night.
After twenty minutes you knew that Parra could not win the game. The refereeing was disgraceful and as for Harrigan in the Video Box the least said the better. My advice to punters do not bet on the finals because the outcome of the games will be decided by the referees not the players.
After that first twenty minutes I switched over to the ABC and watched a great show, Mr George Gentley, vowing not to watch another League game unless they can prove to me there is no bias in the game.
By the way I support the Tigers and did not care who won the game. All I wanted to do was to watch a good game of football, not to have my intelligence insulted by these clowns in referees 'uniforms.

I thought the referees had a pretty good game for our game last night. I couldn't believe the video ref took so long to rule no try in the first half. It should have taken him 10 seconds maximum!

It was nice knowing you

i won $400 last night off a $10 multi bet,(tigers+6.5/over 45.5 into dragons -2.5/under 39.5 into adelaide crows -39.5) i got no problems with the refereeing (last night) LOL

What does everyone think about a 60second time limit for Video Ref decisions?

Theyre meant to go into the decision with a thinking of awarding it, but they spend so long looking for a reason to deny the try it defeats the purpose. In the ESL they start a timer on the TV when a Vid Ref decision is asked for, not sure if it's just so the spectators know how long it took or if there's some limit to how long they can take.

I find it stupid though how V/R cant rule on forward passes yet they can rule on offside and stuff.

Great idea i reckon. Forward passes should be ruled on too imo.

I find it hard to put it down to refs when a team hammers another 37 - blot

It looks that way but the referees never let Parra into the game at any stage. The penalties were 6 to 1 in the first half and they should have received at least 4 penalties but for some reason were denied. The same thing happened in the week before in the Manly- Cronulla game.
We have two referees, two linesman, and a video referee and we still get it wrong.
We have the surrender, the dominant, the chicken wing, the grapple tackles what next the block'n tackle. Like a lot of my colleagues it's got me confused.
The point that I am making is that there is no doubt that the inconsistancies in refereeing put a question over the crediblity of the game and unless we go back to the drawing board and clarify the rules so they are clear cut the game will continue to stagnate.
If you think about it the game started it's downturn from the inception of limited tackle fooball. The game is no longer a game of attrition and endurance. There is no contest for the ball. The skills have been taken away from the players, they are stereotyped and their performance on the field is governed by the most coaches. The game today is patterned on American Gridiron and that to Australians is nowhere as entertaining as Rugby League once was.
David Gallop is not the man for the job and as soon as we get someone in there that understands and recognises that we need to make drastic changes back to where the game once was, the other codes will continue to make inroads and our game will just survive and make no significant progress.
