Thanks for your crap input doctor….

Why does a thread like this have to degenerate into an argument?

Anyway, I must say that Reg Gasnier's passing is very sad indeed. Probably the best footballer ever to pull on a boot and I just loved the way he played the game; no grubby tactics, just sheer brilliance from this true gentleman.
I'm happy to say these things about him even though he put my beloved Magpies to the sword on too many occasions.

Yes, I sat through those sad days, when Reg and St. George stopped us again. 1963 was the worst of them, when we should have held the cup.
He was without doubt the best centre I ever saw and he and Harry Wells were the best pair by far.
RIP Reg Gasnier.

As far as I'm concerned this is like the Forum's funeral notices

Probably uncalled for Quintus , would you type that in the paper's funeral notice's ??

Yes I remember questioning Dad about blokes like Meninga ,Rodgers ,Inglis compared to Gasnier and he just laughed That says something

So does 126 tries from 129 games , even under the unlimited tackle rule this is impressive

how fitting magpiecol initiates thread. Wests V St.George & Lawler - Arthur Summons captaining Gasnier - another connection - it all makes sense - even magpie fans can appreciate that Reg was the best that graced the field. RIP in the Field of Dreams.

My late Dad also spoke of the great Gasnier / Wells combination. I only recall Reg commentating the footy on ABC when they had the rights on Saturday and Sunday afternoon matches …..... think he was calling with John O'Reilly.

Thorough gentleman and will be remembered as one of the games greatest ever.

yes he was a magical player.

I was at Cumberland oval the day he did his knee - leg .he was running towards parra pool end and when he went down the crowd was hushed.

after his playing career ended ,he was a very measured ,fair man who was respected by all.

a true gentleman of the game.

As a boy I had the pleasure of seeing Gasnier play a few times - and although it's hard to remember specifics you could tell he was something special.
Meeting him a few times as an adult I can only reciprocate that he was a true gentleman and very giving of his time.
A very special person with a well deserved, and permanent, place in the history of our game.
R.I.P Reg
