Renovating Leichhardt Oval

Defined concrete paths linking the concourse level with the scoreboard, food facilities and toilets to the rear of the hill would be a welcomed addition instead of trying to step over peoples rugs, kids etc.

Wouldn't cost much either and benefits the elderly and the physically challenged from slipping down the hill in wet conditions.

It won't be sold for a VERY long time. Remember the Callagn Park fiasco? This will be in the too hard basket for a long time. Really it is just a small grandstand (at the water end) and a few facility upgrages away from being a top notch boutique stadium but that would still cost significant $$ and I don't see it happening anytime soon.

The only way it will happen in the near future is with private money, so it's near on bugger all chance of coming to fruition.

My favourite ground in the NRL… Sadely though, I highly doubt any level of government will invest much more into the place other than 'make-up'.

As the Wests Tigers grow, the day will come when we can no longer play there. This will be a sad day for many, but the future lies in the bigger stadiums.

I was devastated the day they pulled down the Frank Burke Stand at the old Lang Park. The place is still a great sporting stadium, but it is no longer Lang Park. The day will come when this will happen to LO... :frowning:

It wouldn't of been a good memory in the Frank Burke Stand when you looked up after the 1976 GF and saw the 16-1 scoreline Watto Brisbane Wests 16 defeated Brisbane Easts 1

Actually seeing that Brisbane Easts never beat Brisbane Wests in a GF there would of been a lot of sad looking scorelines on the old scoreboard hey Watto

Fortunately for you we are on the same side now with the Wests Tigers and Leichardt will always live on in all of our hearts whether they continue playing there or not

You can't extinguish the memories :sign:

Agreed. That is a nightmare.

How can you say that about Lang Park It is still the Cauldron and when I'm watching a game I don't even think about that it has changed apart from the old scoreboard missing

**There is no reason** you couldn't play games against interstate teams at Leichardt but playing local derbies in the future would be totally lacking in logic to play at Leichardt

In future if we have 25000 or more members (hopefully)….how can you play at a ground without that capacity, you could not risk turning members away,

Limited numbers turn memberships into very hot property - thus pumping up prices

I'd love to look at some comparisons in relation to pricing of memberships. I wouldn't be surprised if cheaper is a more profitable model overall… Obviously we would have to forego some of the SUPER stuff in the current Members Kits, but if Membership is going to be continually used as a Ticket Package, maybe cheaper is better for the Club.

Does Cheaper Memberships = More Members is the big question???

Lots of links to other clubs memberships in this thread watto

I really feel a lot of hope for a Leichhardt update went out the window when the Metro/Leagues Club plans were shut down. If the ground was to get a makeover and be coupled with the new Club and greater transport infrastructure then I could see Leichhardt becoming a real success as a whole package. But without these supporting facilities I think you're going to struggle finding any reasonable funding. Another thing Leichhardt has going against it is the surrounding terrain. Behind the grandstand and at the northern end of the ground it falls away virtually straight away.

To me, Campbelltown has the greater potential. It's right next to the train line and is joined with one of the biggest clubs in Sydney. I can really see CSS looking something like Bluetongue or Parramatta Stadium - matching grandstands on the east and west side with concourse, stand and plenty of corporate accommodation, complete seating at the northern end (take away the hill), and leave the hill at the southern end. There's plenty of room to work with at the back of each stand, as well as behind the northern hill.

If CSS could get some decent money to make this happen, I reckon it's totally plausible to play majority of our games there…

Leichhardt is such a beautiful oval ,ive watched so many great games there.i do hope the modernise it , i love nothing more than taking my children along with me and watching them running with the other children certainly brings a smile to my face.its such a family venue and yes i'll be back there again supporting my tigers . i love leichhardt and my tigers..

not to mention all the wonderful people ive meet along the way everyone is so pleasant so kind.i remember as a kid watching the amco cup on the tv and always knew it was a leichhardt game cause of that 2 story gable house in the back ground and yes it's stood the test of time. it's still there .oh the memories ,wern't they great.

become a member, then you can sit in the grandstand, easy access in out. Dont worry about rain. toilets down the stairs and to your right. Food and beer/soft drinks same way. No stepping over peoples rugs and them blocking your view. You have your own seat with a great perspective of the game. Invest in the club and you will see change. But this is not for everyone. Some people were born to be on the hill. I had my hill era at Lidcombe oval that was sufficient. I mean someone has to hold the flags, banners, bang the drums and other parafanalia. Enjoy while it lasts i say. All things change sooner or later, maybe Leichhardt was never meant to be remodernised to stadium capacity. Maybe thats what makes it so special. What if is this is as good as it gets for Leichhardt?

oh and watching all 3 grades dad would get us there nice and early and we'd watch the under 23"s , reserve then first..back then it was just hardcore football. heavy knocks scrum punch ups and i swear no one ever really got hurt. then if we were lucky we'd race home and watch Rex Mossop commentate the Replay on tv.hey guys im actually starting to get a little teary. What a ground what a team and lets not forget the Tiger of all Tigers the late sir Laurie Nichols our number one fan.

Lets keep Leichhardt Oval ALIVE with it's memories lets continue our stories lets keep the tradition don't let the next generation take it away. lets stand together not only as TIGER SUPPORTERS but as rugby league supporters. it can be done and won. everyone in favour say i

leichhardt oval is a treasure that should be kept in the game for many more years to come. obviously finance is the issue for revamping the place and the only way we can move forward in this dept is private backers, public funds from state federal govt is minimal and very hard to achieve. people say that when we reach 20,000+ members we wont be able to use this ground. sadly, that membership number is very far off. for a well supported club our membership numbers are atrocious. the problem with LO is that you can only do so much to it before it starts losing its appeal and nostalgia value which people still hold high. for all its faults and misgivings its what really makes the ground so special, why should we change that?

Maybe **this** is part of **this** problem

Sentiment should not hold back growth, thats a recipe for slow certain death

Perhaps, but we have three grounds, and a multitude of different packages to cater for this. If you really don't like LO, you can still get a CSS/SFS membership. People might struggle to afford memberships. I'm sure there are people who may only get it once every two or three seasons because they can't justify the expense every year. Other people may not renew due to the Blair, Lui and Moltzen sagas, who really knows?

Anyway, you could be right when it comes to a small number of supporters, but on the whole I don't think the state of LO and our bad membership numbers are mutually exclusive.

EDIT: And you're totally right Ink, sentiment shouldn't hold back growth. The WT should be doing everything they can to ensure membership numbers increase every year.

Does anyone remember the little window at the bottom of the grandstand , its still there where u had to buy tickets to get into the grandstand
And the days of when if u get there nice and early u can get a seat near the players pen
And who could forgot the free entry after half time
