Right Hand Defence

One thing is for sure and certain for this weeks game is that Tonga and Bolten will be given very chance against our right hand defence.

Ayshford and Moltzen had better be on their game if they are to hold them out. To me this is a weakness of our side and a strength of the Cowboys.

Having said that getting dominated around the ruck doesn't help but Ayshford has still missed a number of tackles one on one. You would have to say that Moltzen'd defence is still developing as well.

Ayshford is almost certainly out for a number of weeks but agreed the defensive combination down that side has been fairly weak.
Hopefully someone like Flanagan will slot in to replace Ayshford & really toughen that side up. Whoever is selected has a week to practice the combination in defence.

Thats a shame it could have been an opportunity for him to aim up and have a big one.

Whoever is there will be tested.

I would def. play Flanagan there. He is a great defender and played minimal minutes in the forwards this week anyway.

Straight swap, Flanagan for Ayshford and a new forward on the bench. Perhaps Shirnack, or Moors.

that is exactly as i would have it… flanagan is a very good defender...
... Moors 17th man... its the way to go...

If they are serious than it should go back to last years formation with the replacement player defending at half and Moltzen defending at centre

How quick is Flangan?

Double edged question that one. For a forward he's pretty quick because he's only around 91kg. As a back, well he would be the slowest in the Tigers FG side if he was shifted to centre. Defensively it makes sense but who knows…We'll find out later this arvo one way or another.

i doubt flanagan will play centre - the evidence points to mitch brown in the centres and fitzhenry on the wing - just like the good ole days

Being a good defender in the middle is worlds apart from being a good defender in the centres. Tackling people running straight at you is easier than reading attack with flat runners decoy runners and sweeping runners all coming at you at once and knowing to come in or stay out, it takes years to become a good defender out wide. Just because you can tackle doesn't mean you can defend anywhere on the field.

If that happens the Cowboys are gonna score ALOT of tries down that side.

I would prefer Flanagan there as he has shown he can defend and use the ball …this will shut Tonga down and outways the speed of Flanno there still will be ball movement .
The way Asyford has been defending Tonga was going to have a field day anyway IMO ,putting Brown/ Dounut there will be a disaster.
