RLPA Awards - 2017

The voting system is flawed. The players pick the 3 best performers on the opposing team, so when teams come up against a weak side with a few stars like the tigers, the same players are always going to be chosen (e.g. teddy, woods, nofo etc). Whereas a team that has talent across their side are going to be competing against one another for points. No wonder smith didn't win when he's playing alongside slater, cronk, Munster, chambers, kaufusi, Bromwich, vunivalu etc.

Dunno about it being flawed… Don't know why people cant see though this is why our 3 blokes were picked

Of course its flawed, is tedesco a better fullback in 2017 than Slater? No. Was he a better all round player than Smith, DCE etc…? No.
Why did he win then? Because he scored points every week due to having little competition within the club to share them with. Smith had to share the points with 10 other blokes most weeks. If Tedesco had to do similar he scores very few points because by his own admission he did not have a great year....and Nofa...he'll have to work hard to retain his starting spot next year based upon his 2017 form yet is crowned a top 2 winger in the comp? I might laugh at that

I say it's flawed because in the team of the year, 9 out of 13 of the players were in teams that missed the 8\. Also the fact that Teddy beat Smith to the major award. Neither of those points make sense to me.

The highly likely assumption that opposition players view Cammy as a knobhead probably affected his chances as well. I'd say it would be pretty much a popularity contest this award, surprised Moses didn't win it- he's everyone's mate :unamused:

Teddy players player, Woods given captaincy by the great Mal Meninga - there you go.

There you go what?

How these two are rated/berated on here is not necessarily shared by their playing peers and coaches -just an observation.

I wouldnt be surprised if Mal is throwing Woods a bone to let him down easy for when he isnt selected for the WC. On 2017 form, especially during origin, he'll need some key injuries to make it.

He certainly will have some competition, and will have to make the most of his opportunity.
Still, to be given the captaincy by Mal is a great honour even knowing that he is keeping it warm for Smith.
