Roach says Tigers players need to show they really care.

IF you want to hear what an old Tiger thinks about the current generation, then listen to Steve "Blocker" Roach.
>
There was no prouder player to ever pull on a Tigers jumper but the former Test great believes today's stars have lost touch with the club's history.
>
And while giving credit to Benji Marshall for all he has done for the club, Blocker said the Tigers made the right decision in cutting him loose.
>
"Yes, we need to move on," Roach said. "He has been great for the club but we needed to keep young (Luke) Brooks and (Mitchell) Moses.
>
"Although they haven't played first grade yet, they are the future. If we signed Benji for what he wanted we wouldn't be able to keep those kids.
>
"Benji hasn't played great for three or four years. All the footage I see of him was from 2005\. He was brilliant back then, he won our first premiership. But unfortunately in sport you get a tap on the shoulder and your time is up.
>
"He has been great for the Tigers, don't get me wrong, but unfortunately in my opinion he has lost track of what he gets paid for. He gets paid to be a footy player."
>
And Blocker believes plenty of Marshall's teammates have also lost touch with a footballer's reality.
>
"I will probably get howled down for it but a lot of them blokes have to decide if they want to be in Sydney Confidential or play football," he said.
>
"I'm involved with the Tigers, as you know, but the big problem I can see is that there are 10 strings on the table and none of them are tied together. There are too many factions pulling in different directions."
>
He said the players should use Melbourne Storm as their yardstick.
>
"I look at Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith and they know the history of the game," he said. "They love the game. They don't give a rat's arse if they are in Sydney Confidential or if there is a story about their wives. They love the game. They care. I would love you to put that in.
>
"Let it be a wake-up call.
>
"I watch the Tigers closely every week. We were renowned for getting down in the gutter. Where is our creed now, what we believe in?
>
"You have to remember why you are there, what got you the money to do what you do."

I guess Blockers acting like a ''spoilt brat'' too eh?

Apart from Woods ,Farah ,Fulton and Tedesco Blocker is right

How many of these blokes would you pick to get in the trenches with when you were in a battle ??

Very few from what I see week to week

I agree with Block. Happy Tiger I think is a bit unfair. You'd have to throw in Sue, Buchanan, Nofo and Simona as blokes having a real dig.

They have at times granted but have lacked consistency from time to time and float in and out of games

I am one of Sue's biggest fans and cant wait until we play him in the second row and believe once Buchanan gets a bigger motor and some leg drive could really surprise many at the Tigers next season , possibly even pushing Keefy to our No 3 prop

Blocker can be a bit hit and miss, but he's always on the money when he talks about club pride and grit.

As you say Happy, there is a serious lack of steel to this team and there has been for a very long time. Sheens coached a side that was flamboyant and real momentum riders, but that will only jag you good seasons every now and then. It's as if nobody at Tigers ever looked at Melbourne's benchmark - sure they can be robotic at times, but I'd rather take robotic consistent finals appearances vs the very occasional amazing finals run.

If the players don't care how are we expected to part with our money and buy merchandise, tickets, and memberships. They better care shouldn't take their jobs for granted

Blocker is right on the money! And holding back some. These players have been running this club for far to long. Love the new direction we are heading in. Just a pitty some senior players have lost the heart to put in for WT jersey!!!!

Watched Penrith vs Tigers on FOX on a Leichardt dustbowl last Friday and OMG were these guys tough Mofo's. Very few of todays current players would have made it back then. Blocker, Sirro and Pearce would still kill it if they played today….not sure about Benny or Rossy Conlon though.

For the players it's a case of taking the easy money but showing no dedication or responsibility. I know a lot of you don't like to here this but club culture does start somewhere around the club coach. But don't blame Sheens because he has been gone for close to a year and club culture was nowhere as bad in his days.

Your right don't blame Sheens blame the club for keeping Sheens in the job for to long. Sheens was a rotten apple and should of been removed before rotting those around him. Slowly they are all being removed especially the ones taking the easy money. Pride and passion that's what we want

More Balmain players speaking on behalf of WT's, How long till we start getting a few guys who actually played for the club?

Well that didn't take long.

Who cares that hes a Balmain player. He is a legend, he works for the club and is part of its history.

Agree w most of what he says but for such a proud player he has a short memory

3-4 years ago Benj got named Golden Boot as best player in the world and he was absolutely vital to us having those two years of contention. What a lot of dribble football 'experts' have been spreading about Benji's demise. This year is his only bad year. Even last year he led the league in try assists.

Neither did your reply LaT

I'd be lying if i said i wasn't expecting you to pop up with your objections,

Its funny cos people are always pushing this concept that we aren't Wests or Balmain and that this is an entirely different club. We're told to get over the past and move on. Funny how people only say that kind of stuff depending on the circumstances.

He's spot on in this occasion

There seems to be a distinct lack of pride shown by some players in our jumper lately

Oh God Yesssssssssssssssss! Following Wests Tigers is so damn frustrating for the most part. How I long to be able to support a team that can play consistently good football, a la Storm or Manly.

The sad thing is you legitimately think you are above reproach on here. Yes, I replied to your comment. At this point it is pretty much Mandela > Ghandi > you.

I hope I haven't caused too much mental anguish.

So the real story probably went like this: media hack needed to fill space, noticed WTs going badly, knows Roach played for a JV team, knows Roach WORKS here while being a media commentator, has his mobile number as well as a friendly relationship….so they call and ask for his thoughts.

There is nothing about that scenario worth crying about. **Stop the professional victim hood.**
