IF you want to hear what an old Tiger thinks about the current generation, then listen to Steve "Blocker" Roach.

There was no prouder player to ever pull on a Tigers jumper but the former Test great believes today's stars have lost touch with the club's history.

And while giving credit to Benji Marshall for all he has done for the club, Blocker said the Tigers made the right decision in cutting him loose.

"Yes, we need to move on," Roach said. "He has been great for the club but we needed to keep young (Luke) Brooks and (Mitchell) Moses.

"Although they haven't played first grade yet, they are the future. If we signed Benji for what he wanted we wouldn't be able to keep those kids.

"Benji hasn't played great for three or four years. All the footage I see of him was from 2005\. He was brilliant back then, he won our first premiership. But unfortunately in sport you get a tap on the shoulder and your time is up.

"He has been great for the Tigers, don't get me wrong, but unfortunately in my opinion he has lost track of what he gets paid for. He gets paid to be a footy player."

And Blocker believes plenty of Marshall's teammates have also lost touch with a footballer's reality.

"I will probably get howled down for it but a lot of them blokes have to decide if they want to be in Sydney Confidential or play football," he said.

"I'm involved with the Tigers, as you know, but the big problem I can see is that there are 10 strings on the table and none of them are tied together. There are too many factions pulling in different directions."

He said the players should use Melbourne Storm as their yardstick.

"I look at Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith and they know the history of the game," he said. "They love the game. They don't give a rat's arse if they are in Sydney Confidential or if there is a story about their wives. They love the game. They care. I would love you to put that in.

"Let it be a wake-up call.

"I watch the Tigers closely every week. We were renowned for getting down in the gutter. Where is our creed now, what we believe in?
>
"You have to remember why you are there, what got you the money to do what you do."
