ROBBIE FARAH HAPPY FOR 'COACH' DWYER

When Robbie Farah looked around to see who was on the City Origin support staff, there was one young man who he found a bright smile for.
Standing around Head Coach Brad Fittler were team doctors, physio and trainers but lurking quietly in the background was Simon Dwyer, the former Western Suburbs Magpies junior who graduated from the U20s through to the Wests Tigers NRL side.
Dwyer pulled on the City jersey for the first time last year in the corresponding clash against Country.
Following the game, he received rave reviews from Fittler and was touted as a possible Origin candidate.
Then, in a cruel blow, Dwyer suffered a terrible injury that has left him with severe nerve damage.
Today, Dwyer, in between working hard on his rehab, is the Wests Tigers NYC Video and Statistics Analyst.
Fittler has become a close friend and the former international had no hesitation in bringing Dwyer into the City squad. He will feel at home with his Wests Tigers team-mates in Farah, Chris Lawrence, Liam Fulton and Aaron Woods in camp.
“Out of everyone in the City camp this week, the bloke who I am most happy for is Simon. It is great to have him involved,’’ Farah said.
“I think ‘Freddy’ (Fittler) should be congratulated for taking this initiative. I know Simon is a bit nervous being here as one of the coaches but all of the City boys are thrilled to have him involved.
‘It means a lot to Simon and to the boys, especially me. I’m speechless that he is here and involved in this side.”
Farah said Dwyer was a real inspiration to him and his Wests Tigers team-mates in his ability to keep fighting.
“Things obviously took a turn for the worse for Simon but he is a real positive kid. He will never give up hope of playing again for Wests Tigers,’’ Farah said.
“As long as Simon continues to work hard, we are there to support him through every step of the way. He will always be one of the boys.”
