Couple of interesting comments from Robbie. esp. about recruitment (or the lack thereof) for the last few seasons.

THE smell of liniment and turf stains was still fresh when Robbie Farah turned to his coach after last season's round 26 victory over the Bulldogs.

"We got back into the dressingrooms and I went straight up to Tim and said, `I wish 2010 started tomorrow','' Farah recalled. "That's how pumped I was. I can't remember being this excited about any season since my NRL debut.''

The Tigers skipper is not ashamed to admit he has entered previous campaigns with trepidation. And he's also not ashamed to admit those doubts sprang from concerns about a playing roster that has been stagnant since the 2005 premiership.

But thanks to a recruitment blitz, Farah is now bouncing. The team's coat is thick with depth in the backline and size up-front. Leaving aside the impending signature of Lote Tuqiri, the Tigers have already lured Jason Cayless, Arana Taumata, Junior Moors, Geoff Daniela, Daniel Fitzhenry and Liam Fulton to the club next year.

It's no wonder Sheens had little hesitation in declaring next season's list the strongest since he assumed the coaching reins seven years ago.

"Ask Tim, this is the first year I haven't been nagging him about signing some new players. The recruitment has always been a concern for me and to tell you the truth, that's why I was negotiating with the Gold Coast [last season],'' Farah said.

"If you asked me before the last couple of years, I'd have to honestly say we were treading water and not moving in the direction I would've liked. We lost so many players after 2005 and it was a thing I thought about a lot. But it's not a concern now. I can't wait. Towards the end of last year everyone started moving in the right direction. We won six games straight and gave ourselves a chance to make the finals.

"We made a goal for the last third of the season to be consistent and we achieved that. It was disappointing to miss out on the finals, but the positive thing was how we finished.''

English import Gareth Ellis, who only arrived back from the Four Nations on Wednesday, also expects to lift after his debut season. "This time last year it was an unknown for me,'' said Ellis, voted the Tigers' best in 2009\. "This year I know what I can do. I've got different expectations of myself.''

Both players helped launch the team's jersey, which will feature alternative major sponsors Proton Cars and new backer MKB Contracting.

Great to hear Robbie and Gareth so pumped for the coming season, exciting times…..

I think this proves most peoples theories that Farah was thinking of walking due to retention/recruitment uncertainty.

Yeah Right….....Funny I remember reading the same article at the begining of '07, '08 and '09... :unamused:

We've heard Farah complain about WT recruitment previously in the media but I like his honesty, he's up front about it and at least we're not going to hear the excuse "we didn't have a strong enough squad or enough depth" if the Tigers miss out on the finals again.

Personally with the playing roster the Tigers have, I reckon they should be aiming for the top 4\. There's plenty of talent in the team and if they are consistent then the results will take care of themselves.

yep. sounds the same about this time every year. but robbie does have a point. just look at our recruitment plus a marquee signing coming soon. things could be different for us next season.

1 prop short for 2010 at the moment,

No excuses

Don't Fret…..........1 Prop short.....pffft.......Lortay is coming...........

Oh and X ...2010 is the strongest the Club has been since Sheens was here.....doesnt mean 07-09 is forgotten.......kinda weak admitting He did'nt have the Cattle...'05 proved that......We cut a heap of deadwood as promised but we are still banking on the youngsters to Step Up..

Well ..........no excuses........Sheens has got what he wants.....as always.........

Hopefully the WT can manage to snare a majority of wins in the first 5 weeks, considering they won't have ANY home ground advantage for that duration…

If they bank on LO and CS games later in the year to be guaranteed 2pts like in the past 3 seasons, then it could well and truly be Groundhog Day once again..

the players have talked aboutit.
only time will tell if they can achieve it.
if they believe in themselves they can do anything.
work together as a team, not as individuals.

That's just the problem…too much talk and not enough results.
They themselves know they are a much better and talented team than results have shown in the past 4 years. We know this also.
Regardless of who they have recruited, they will likely underachieve AGAIN. With the roster WT have had, injuries taken into consideration, they should have pushed for top 8 in 2006, top 6 in 2007, top 8 in 2008 and top 4 in 2009.
The 2010 roster could pose a threat for a team to push for top 4 or higher, any lower than that is below par in my books. I am not knocking these guys, in fact i am complimenting how talented they really are and where they stand in the NRL competition!!

What about the goal at the start of the season?

Heard all this crap before.

 What happend to the positive "Buckets"

It was Sheens and his impending Re signing..that tipped you over the edge…wasn't it.........

I just re read this article at work again today, Fri paper still there….that comment struck me as odd and I knew when I got home and checked that ''the last third'' would be just when the 6 game run started

I think its rubbish tbh....they made a goal and suddenly started winning? Ffft

I agree completely…..

Goals are great..Wests Tigers invent them after the event...

What was the goal when we lost 6 from 8 in '09....... :deadhorse:

All a load of bollocks!!
It all started turning around when Sheens decided to put the 6 back on Marshall's back where he had a bit more room to work with. Playing Moltzen in the halves was also the other contributing factor..
Halatau was reported quoting at the beginning of the year before season 2009 about the Tigers' inconsistent "rocks and diamonds" effect…Which therefore means it WAS their goal before the first whistle had even blown for the year!!

C'mon Faffy... no more spin please. I prefer it when you are direct, honest and keeping it real. That's the Farah we have all known to love!!
