Robbie Farah

I think if we are to win this competition, Robbie needs to rediscover his verve. He is a fantastic leader, and still making big plays for our club. However I think this season he is being comprehensively outshone by Benji Marshall, possibly for the first time. He seems to not be as threatening out of dummy half, and he seems to be shanking kicks and taking poor options. I know I have exceptionally high standards I judge Farah on, based on his brilliant first 5-6 seasons in the NRL. I would go as far as saying he has perhaps been an even more valuable player over the years then Marshall. I thought he was that good that he was just as dangerous as Marshsall, yet more dependable. I thought in 2007 Farah was verging on being the best player in the world, based on his skill set and the amount of tries he set up and line breaks he created.

LIke I said, he is still going ok. Without him on the field we don't beat Penrith (masterful pass to set up the winning try) and Newcastle (clutch field goal) However I still think he is well down on form, not by the standards of other plodding hookers in the NRL, but buy his own high standards. I'm not sure if it the injury really hampering him, or the fact teams have really worked out his style. Or the fact that our forwards struggle to get over the ad line. Or the fact he is unselfishly defering more to the halves to control the team. He just doesn't look explosive out of dummy half sometimes this year, doesn't seem as much scheming in his carries.

Anyway, in previous seasons I thought it was an outrage he wasn't playing origin. This season I am not sure where he is at. Is it just a flat spot in a stellar career to date?

The referees change the game every few rounds and Robbie Farah has always been a player whose understanding of the rules of the game dictated how impressive he was. The current state of the game doesn't suit him at all. I know it's NOT the case, but it almost seems like there is a directive to referee Robbie Farah out of games. He gets no love from refs. His dummy half runs are nullified because offside markers are allowed to tackle him (he seems to be the only hooker this applies to). Without his explosive runs he offers reasonable playmaking but not enough to make him the best player in our team.

how is his groin injury? haven't realy heard much about it since the first time they beat Souths. This would easily be his most ineffective season so far in his career,as you said Eddie probably the first yr he has been out-performed by Marshall.Pretty use to seeing Farah perform even when the tigers aren't.The one thing which has been non-exsistant is his kicking game.Usually he has one of the best kicking games bar none in the competition, especially his short kicking game close to the line.Absolutley lethal. Not sure what the issue is atm,i can only assume he's still carrying an injury, but there hasn't been much talk of it lately so i don't know. One thing is for sure though and thats the fact that he hasn't been himself at all so far this season

I've been saying for a while. His game has simply not come on.

In saying that the dumb plays have gotten less and his defence seems solid. Truthfully if he keeps playing like this I'm happy because Benji is the player who wins us games.

It also means when he is not killing them he isn't stuffing us and if he gets his form back watch out because we can turn into a much better team.

There is no doubting at the moment however that Benji is a far superior player than Farah and in my opinion Ellis has overtaken Farah as our no 2 player.

Dummy half runs are not encouraged by the refs nrl anymore

I think hes going very well, his service is exceptional, quick passes and rarely above or behind the first reciever.

His D hasnt changed, still gets pushed back and is unable to dominate often.

His kicking I think has suffered as a result of his injurys, back and groin.

If anything I think there may be a case at time of ''too many cooks syndrome''….Sheens earluier in the years directed him & Benji to give Lui more responsibility, that may take away some of his control

I think this is one of the main reasons. He still occasionally tries it but it never results to anything. You can pretty much see him sigh when he doesn't get a penalty he clearly deserves.

Farah barely makes any runs from dummy half anymore. And I dont think you can say hookers arent meant to run anymore, cause ive seen some number 9s make plenty of yards, particularly vs us.

The rules have changed yes but to me it all comes down to our forward pack. In the absolute rare chance one of our forwards makes a run which bends the line and then can get a quick play the ball, I see Robbies eyes light up and off he goes. But this doesnt happen enough. On top of that teams are so weary of Farah and I think the markers give themselves an extra second to see which way Farahs going. So unless theres a quick play the ball, then Farah really cant make the yards, which is a shame.

But I dont think its just the rules, cause plenty of teams are making valuable yards out of dummy half and Farah isnt.

Utai was one of the few who could get that roll on for Farah - the rest of the pack not really, which might tell you that despite the whole pack being good players individually, the balance in it isnt quite right.

Clubs know that if they can stop Farah they go a long way towards stopping The Tigers . Give Farah a break he busts his gut every week even though he is not in the best of health or form . He topped the tackle count for both sides yesterday . He will lift next few weeks Smith this week and Ennis again shortly .

God no. Don't play him on Wed night as part of the worst NSW team ever selected! Don't want Robbie to be the scape goat.
It might have something to do though with the 'culture' Ricky is trying to instill. Tariq Simms and…..ahem Ryan James have also joined the Blues in camp.

Read what people say champ. Never said he didnt make a lot of tackles or bust his gust.

But he doesnt make the metres out of dummy half, and thats a fact. He used to have games where hed made 5-10 runs all very quickly for 10 metres or so, and sharply and this year he is lucky to make 1-2 strong runs like that. Not an insult, just a fact.

Still that is not his fault If we don't get go forward from the forwards There is no use him darting out of dummy half as he gets picked off too easily A lot will now have to with the play the ball rules changing this year and Sheens instructions that Lui is now in charge of calling plays

The change to the marker rule hasnt helped either, although, I'm a fan of the new ruling…

He doesnt seem to have much leg speed at the moment, add that to his percieved extra workload in defence, and I'd say he come back to the pack somewhat...

Either way, I'm content with Robbie at 9, but feel he needs a 10-15 minute rest each week.

Well thats exactly right. Forwards cant go forward then theres no point running, its not his fault.

BANG, ! I agree 100%, and these 15 minutes should come at the end of first half or start of 2nd half, preferably the latter one.

Robbie is a good player and all, but he has had 14 weeks this year, and if he is a good player he should be able to adapt to the changes that have been made. It may take some more time, however I'm confident he will adjust his game according to the team and the new rules.

Eventually, when he does, when Rowdy and Tuqiri are back and we have fixed the no.7 issue, it should be it. Trophy will be coming to Concord.

I think Robbie will hit his straps soon, IMO he is sticking to Sheens game plans most of the time…which is Get the ball to Marshall... but that could change and become get the ball to Ellis what a flick! Lol!

See nothing of farah anywhere in that

I hope Farah tells Sticky to go and get squarely. I don't want him associated with the culture of failure that the Blues seemed to have fallen into.
