Robbie Farah's feisty Twitter rage row
Tyson Otto From: The Daily Telegraph September 13, 2010 12:00AM

ROBBIE Farah's frustration and disappointment over the Wests Tigers heartbreaking golden-point loss to the Roosters fuelled a bitter slanging match with a fan on social networking website Twitter.

With emotions still running high in the aftermath of the Roosters' epic 19-15 win at the Sydney Football Stadium, Farah fired back at criticism he received from a Dragons fan with the username SaintBenny.

Farah, 26, and teammates, including star winger Lote Tuqiri, jumped on Twitter to announce how devastated they were by the loss, only to be set upon by SaintBenny for being "chokers".

"Don't try to sugar coat it Lote, u guys had enough chances to win 20 games and blew them," SaintBenny wrote on Tuqiri and Farah's accounts.

"Epic CHOKE. When u lose the unlosable u got to expect criticism, don't be such a snag."

Farah replied yesterday morning on the social media platform: "We know we f … . . up. Don't need you rubbing it in.

"I'd like to see u last 2 minutes on the footy field champ. Go get a life. For once I hope the Dragons dont CHOKE today.

"I just don't like nobodies like you bagging guys when you should be applauding the effort we put in for 100 mins."

The rally went back and forth for just a few minutes.

But disgruntled Tigers fans were still slugging it out with SaintBenny on Twitter for several hours.

Wests Tigers boss Stephen Humphreys defended Farah's role in the online social media scuffle.

Farah was clearly upset by the loss and Humphreys said he was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"This isn't a hanging offence," Humphreys said yesterday. "I don't think there was too much in it."

Farah didn't say anything wrong there but the media like to make a big deal about it. lol

i know a few Dragons supporters and I congratulated them on the win (for pure selfish reasons) only to be bombarded with comments like 'choker'
We played an amazing game and the poor boys had to go for 100 mins.

Im not a fan of the players interacting via these sites. This is just another distraction….

I agree ! I think they (the team) should put that match (and all these silly twitters) behind them and get on with the task at hand. Sure they did mess up, and couldn't come off with the win , but that was yesterday, they have an awful task ahead of them - none of us would like to be in their shoes. They will need to get confidence back, and injured players on the field again, all before Friday. I can't believe it's come to this. On the other hand what an exciting match we viewed on Saturday evening - 😛ray: 😛ray: 😛ray:

It's one of the dangers of social networking in what is essentially a public forum. I would suggest Farah has a lot more to lose in a slanging match with a transparent nobody than the said nobody. Best to keep out of it Rob, you don't know the loser, best to leave it that way

Yes Watto of course…they should chain them to the gym before they turn the lights out.....they have a life outside of football....

As for Farah's spray...ONYA Robbie....give it to the Nuffy...

To be honest I don't think Robbie should have wasted his time with the idiot because now, the media will make it huge. But with his emotions the way they were at the time its understandable.

Twitter leads to all sorts of problems for players of not just Rugby but all kinds of sports.

I'm sure there is a ban on American Football players using it a certain period before and after a game. If they do so then there is a heavy fine.

Richie Mathers (Warrington full back) got involved in a massive argument over twitter, it lead to:

RichardMathers @ MichaelJones86 don't bother coming then u nerd… or how's about u introduce yourself to me face to face you keyboard warrior?

MichaelJones86 @ RichardMathers you would probably drop me, you drop everything else. Can't wait for Brett hodgson. Bellend

Enticing the Fans to be apart of thier Twitter Network isnt life outside of Football Geo… Its still part of thier Football Life and is a distraction which isnt controlled/structured. The fact Robbie even replied clearly shows he too is confusing what it means to have all these fans on Twitter. Robbie wouldnt of made such comments at a fan day or during a media conference...

Are you suggesting Robbie brings a few of his Twitter Buddies around home for a beer in the off-season?

just stupid the media makes anyhting of it , hope this doesnt put farah of his game.. he's been playing sensational!!

please read this guys posts to robbie farah and look at what his been posting to other tigers players…this is the feedback our players dont need :imp: :imp:

You know what robbie should just close his account or just not reply to them. I think its ridiculous that they write stuff like that to him and good on him for handling it so professionally. Definitely keyboard warriors..wouldnt dare say it to his face.

Unfortunately it's the risk people take for being known to the general public and using social websites such as Twitter, Facebook and Myspace. Occasionally it can come back to bite them.
