Robert Lui re-signs for two more years

all some people on here can do is complain!

We sign the 5/8 of the year from NYC to extend his future at the club - TICK
Now if Lui plays to potential and forms a formidable and exhilarating partnership with Marshall in the halves, wins rookie of the year and we make the semis I can't wait to see people come out of the wood works. Far fetched scenario? Maybe! But think of it this way. We have signed him on a guess at around 60-70K/yr until 2012\. If said scenario does work out then what a great purchase by WT management. If it doesn't work out and expectations from fans and the club are not met then we have lost very minimal except 60-70K/yr from our cap, but at least fans have the knowledge that the Tigers are signing up the best young talent with eye to the future instead of them plying their trade at another club!
It annonys me how people can complain about Round 1 team selections without witnessing every training session in pre-season. Let alone the minimal to no experience at coaching a side at a professional level of sport!

I hope we didn't pay too much as he is unproven consistantly at 1st grade level. I still don't like the idea of promoting NYC players to 1st grade, State Cup should be a natural progression. But in saying that he could very well prove to be a great signing for us. I hope he is that's for sure. But I'm not confident at this stage.

I'm not complaining as long as they didn't spend too much on the contract, since he hasn't really proven himself in firstgrade yet, but I don't think they would have spent too much. I think he will end up a pretty good first grader. He has a pretty good long kicking game which is why I think Sheens wants him in the side. To take pressure off Farah and Benji with the kicking. I think he was brought into firstgrade a little too early though. He always seems to makes breaks too and I think his defence will improve. Remember he is still very young!

I think it's an important signing. With Benji,Farah,Moltzen,Lawrence,Ryan,Ayshford,Gibbs,Tuqiri,Galloway all semingly signed long-term, some players will have to be shed at seasons end. I have a feeling unless he has a cracker(and i hope he does) it might be the end for Payten.

lui great one minute , sleepybyes the next.

3 or 4 denigrating posts on this….we get the picture.

Its called junior development, thing is if we wait until he is an 80 minute player he'd be signed by another club.

As you said, at times hes great. So surely theres something to work on there.

Robert Lui will be the hottest property in the NRL at the end of his current contract in 2012!!…Mark these words!

I remember a couple of years ago a few on here complaining that we have no depth in the halves and i argued and argued that a team is lucky to have one decent half back let alone any real depth in the position, we now have more depth at half than other club, its great and something i never thought possible.

How can anyone be negative about Lui re-signing without knowing what money was involved anyway?

Personally if the price was right I think it works really well on a few levels. The club obviously believe Lui has what it takes to become an NRL quality halfback and arguably would have cost less than one J. Morris and the belief shown by the club will only help Lui belive in himself more which is a win/win.

Some are never happy but I think the recruitment and retention shown by the club should be congratulated and is a big step in the right direction finally.

Depth Maybe…..lacks experience.....If something happens to Marshall ...I'm not convinced....

Totally agree. I've been a Tigers boy since I was 4, and most of my mates and workmates support them too, and I realise what a fickle lot we can be. Lui is only 19, he's still developing and the initiative of signing should be commended. If we let him go, and the injury Gods don't favour us I can see everyone saying "why'd they let him go for"

Seems like a lot of people are judging him on his performance against the Poosters…

There is no doubt that Lui will handle first grade …... anyone who saw him play last year can see that. Is he ready for 26 straight rounds of NRL .....time will tell. Whatever he does this year, he will be better for it in season 2011.

Here, here!
This is great news and excellent timing. If he goes alright, he would have had most clubs knocking on his door, simply because good halves are hard to find. He's a Tiger.

Also, to those saying Lui should be playing State cup. I don't recall Marshall carving up lower grades before getting a shot in first grade, nor did Lawrence. They were both a class above their piers in there age groups and didn't have a single premier league or under 20's game before debuting in FG. They have held a spot in FG ever since. Who says Lui can't do the same. The best 5/8 in NYC! I understand the thinking and I too feel this could be good for his development, but not before we see how he goes in FG. TIm is handling this with an open mind whilst ensuring he's not losing a potential star. Lets give him every bit of support we can, even if your losing sleep with the thought of Moltzen not at 7\. Its the first step in our season to play Lui at 7\. I hope he carves up.

Great time to sign him while his value on the market is low.
As a few people have stated he was U/20s 5/8 of the year. He has an enormous amount of talent.
Once he gets comfortable in first grade im sure many clubs will be wishing they could pinch him from us.
