Robert Lui

Hope they don't only make an example of Robert. There is a certain rooster forward who is always injured that was found guilty of assualting his ex girlfriend. Hope they give him a year as well. Also is a current Cronulla player that has just been found guilty, he better get a year as well.

Nope, Cronulla player was only suspended until round 10 THIS YEAR

Good start, these blokes should be made an example of. The next offender should be deregistered for life. Send a message to the pigs in the game that think it's okay to smack their partner around.

Cowboys halfback Robert Lui has been banned for the remainder of the NRL season for assaulting his partner.

In a strong statement by the ARL Commission, which met today, the 22-year-old Lui was suspended from the rest of the 2012 competition, putting his career in serious doubt.

Cronulla winger Isaac Gordon was banned for nine matches for a domestic violence matter.

Lui pleaded guilty last month to assaulting his partner Taleah Rae Backo following Mad Monday celebrations in September while he was at the Wests Tigers.

He was subsequently suspended then released by the Tigers and picked up by North Queensland.

Gordon, who has been serving an indefinite suspension since the start of the season, will now be eligible to play in Round 10\. Gordon pleaded guilty to a lesser assault charge than Lui but one that involved a domestic violence issue.

“The Cowboys and Sharks have joined the ARLC in making a clear statement about the need to prevent violence against women,” ARL Commission chief executive David Gallop said.

“With regard to Robert Lui, he has been suspended since the day of his guilty verdict and there has been a need since then to consider the welfare of Robert’s partner Tahleah, his son, and Robert’s own ongoing welfare in what is a difficult family circumstance.

“The Cowboys are not taking that responsibility lightly and it has been important to give the club and the family time to fully comprehend the circumstance of the judgment and the most effective ways to move forward before confirming a penalty.

“At the same time there is a need to send a strong message to the community and, as the first sport to make such an emphatic statement, we would encourage others to follow rugby league’s lead in the future.

I'm fully against violence to women but from what I'm hearing his missus is a bit of nutcase but still no need to give her a flogging

The NRL should also seek to put an agreement in place with the English Super League so that offenders can't just move to the UK and earn higher salaries while 'serving their time'. Wouldnt be much of a deterrent

With this on his criminal record, Lui would be lucky to get into the UK.

About time we started to make examples of these grubs. Glad to see the IC finally taking these issues seriously rather than throwing out the "it's a club issue" line. Maybe now players start to get the message.

I must admit MM that i thought the Cowboys were handling it correctly They had stood him down indefinitely

so will he fade away never to be seen again?
gain 50kg ?

I think he will be back next year, don't know why just have a feeling he will make it back. I hope he puts his demons behind him and provides the best he can for his child.

Just read a story that the RLPA is unhappy with the decisions in regards to Robert Lui and his suspension

If what the RLPA said is true he wasn't given a chance to speak to the ARLC and defend himself

While I don't condone what Lui has done , he should have the right to speak on his own behalf to the ARLC
