Rod Griffin

Gee, sounds like those Walker bros are pretty supportive. Happy to see their good players leave for better things.

I agree, really does sound like they are doing good things with their team. And also getting results on the field, helps their players cause no end.

I think it's great blokes of 27+ years getting a run still on first contracts, shows it's not only about whiz-bang juniors, and that missing out at NYC doesn't mean you are done as a player. If anything, you respect the guys even more for plugging away for 10 years in lower levels, to have another crack at NRL.

Your point is? Many players play for england, trying to say Sean O’Loughlin will make it over here? Just because Graham played for England and had 200 games under his belt it doesn't mean he was always going to succeed over here.

My point is he isn't a nobody just because you had never heard of him. You say that the QLD cup is equal to the SL, really? Half of the players who make up the SL have played in the NRL at some point, but you think its equal in class. Rod Griffin is not James Graham. Putting them in the same sentence is ridiculous.

I was about to put them in the same sentence….

I think Rod Griffen plays a similar style to James Grahem. Tough with a good work rate, but a little bit of ball playing and sleight of hand to go with it.

That said I believe he is a poor man's James Grahem who has been a star for ever.

People talk down ESL, it is a very decent standard.

Ben Galea was a ball playing forward. Played half his career at 5/8 and hooker. I thought Griffin was more of a workhorse happy?

Griffin has good footwork at the line like Benny but plays like he is 120 kgs BB

I reckon many WT's supporters will fall in love with him

I did the first time I saw him playing with Ipswich Jets

Time will tell

Gareth Ellis made it here too

Gareth Ellis
James Graham
Adrian Morley?
Sam Burgess?
Phil Lowe
Brian Lockwood
Rod Griffin?

Hope so

I used to love watching him play Flegg and Premier League with Balmain back in the day. Was a machine despite not being the biggest on the field physically. I was surprised when he just disappeared. Figured he was homesick as he was our stand-out junior forward at the time.

Although maybe he just wasn't in the plans of Sheens, ala Sam Moa and Jeff Lima

I haven't seen enough of these 2 to form an opinion but I'm excited to watch them and quietly confident they will hold their own in first grade.

From what I've heard griffin was generally a hit and miss player most of his career. He was used as a back rower on the edge and could be brilliant or terrible. Had issues with his hands and could also get picked off by smart halves isolating him with options either side. sincebeing moved to the front row he has completely transformed and is generally one of the best players on the field every week.

He also has his life off the field sorted with a partner and new born. At 27/28 he knows this is his last chance to make it, has great work ethic and in his first full time professional squad will be given every opportunity to shine.

Tiger Fans, Madness & Sawn off Kumul will surprise, no bold statements.
I have been lucky enough to attend most Jets home games for the last 4 years.
There wasn't much press regarding the Jets forwards, namely there defence through the finals series.
Rod (finals)& Madness (Grand Final)were outstanding. They are hard & Tuff & thrive on the collision, Tigers could do with a bit of that.

This is my 1st post.Been a Tigers fan all my life 57 years from Bob Smithies to Benji. WT Member. Joined WTF a couple of weeks ago, to get a better understanding of the club.
Can anyone tell me categorically that Robbie is going! Stating the obvious, it is really hurting the Club.

Thanks for the info on the new boys mate. Looking forward to see what they can do. A bit of hunger in the pack is well over due. And welcome to the forum.
I don't think anyone here knows what's doing with Farah.

Welcome to the Forum John

From one Ipswich boy to another can't hurt getting more of our Jets boys down there

I'd love us to bring down Carlin Anderson , good player , reckon he could make a decent centre with some work

He looks a good player. Seems likely he will carve out an NRL career somewhere.

Goose your pretty knowledgeable with this stuff

But why is Anderson listed on zero tackle as off contract in 2016 ??

I'll ask the question myself of a guy I know at the Jets , but wondering if you knew ??

Is he contracted with the Broncos , but loaned out to Ipswich ??

Did anyone notice in the interview's both Griffin and McConnachie both constantly said 'Yeah Nah'. Not sure if it was a gee up or just Country boys not used to being interviewed.

I don't want to expect too much from them other than a few minutes off the bench every now and then but would love them both to surprise me.

I have a feeling Rod Griffin will surprise many people on here and become a fans favourite this season. He seems to have matured into a decent footballer and understands what is needed to win…...Be as one..A Team.
I think Billy will take a bit time in NSW Cup but once he rattles a few and gets his game fitness, he will be pushing selection on the edge.
I have a feeling both will see a few games this year and I am excited to see how they develop. Have a feeling Rod will be in the 17 for the first game as he can cover Prop through to backrow.

There will be a lot of opposition players wondering just where Griffin and McConnochie are on the field as they hit the ball up. Not a pleasant prospect running into either of these blokes; especially Griffin. Hard as nails!

We can't expect miracles from the Ipswich boys, but remember they were the best of the QLD Cup forwards last year. Who beat the best of the NSW Cup players. To think some players who've been ok without standing out too much at nsw cup level like Santi, Lovett, Buchanan all played at least half the NRL season last year.

These boys are more experienced and have performed better at a higher level so there's no reason not to think that they won't get significant game time this season.

Also considering we have a shortage of props: Woods, Ava, Sue. Followed by Griffin, McConnachie and Buchanan. Of those 6 at least 4 would be in our top 17\. Sue may start at lock too remember. Seeing Griffin and McConnachie can both play back row too they may offer more flexibility and rotation and move above Buchanan in the pecking order. On the other hand Buchanan has played 40 odd NRL games and knows the players - where they don't - his early games were ok but were pretty average in seasons 2+3.

With the likelihood of backrowers playing 80 mins or close to it the likes of Lawrence, Sirro and Edwards will be more likely to play big minutes and therefore there's less need for specialist back rowers on the bench. Chee Kam or Halatau might take that spot.

The Ipswich boys are definitely both in the mix for a bench spot from the get go, but much will depend on pre-season, new boys gelling etc.
