Checked the stats before I bet and manly haven’t beaten panthers since 2017/2018
 
Full credit to whoever does the tactics for the pennies, identified Saab as being and old fashioned cat, and just kept kicking to him, and lifting in the tackle with numbers and dragging him back. The getting under and lifting tactic was implemented perfectly back in the day by Jamie Lyon himself, who used it to perfection to nullify Inglis on many an occasion.So many sets started on the back foot and slow. I remember the wok when he was our PE teacher and footy coach at belmore boys high and we would play James cook and former st George forward Jeff hardy was playing for them and before kick off, wok would say,” He is a cat this hardy, somebody sprintout of the line and give it to him.” Ah the good old days, so politically incorrect, but so much fun.
 
I watched about 50 mins of the game last night and got a phone call about some work and didnt watch the end,however I came to the conclusion that the Panthers are a very well coached team and they are completely professional in their organisation and play..
It was obvious to me that they could go back to back this year,the first 40 mins showed that,even with 2 disallowed tries....

I'd like to believe Ivan Cleary has evolved as a coach with his experience at WTs serving him well for his role at the Panthers.

Jeff Hardy used to live in the home unit below where my parents lived in North Wollongong. My father always speaks very highly of him. Another player in that James Cook High side was an outstanding running lock forward by the name of Geoff Selby. He had that ability to break the line constantly and had really good pace. He died in a traffic accident coming back from Sharks Leagues Club.

Also very frequently offside in defence, hence the amazing line speed they can produce. They are a well-drilled team no doubt, but how much the ref lets you get away with has a massive impact.

Sorry mate,he always was a good coach,had Nathan not been at the Riff and Ivan wanting to coach him,Im sure we would have made the 8 during his contract if he hadnt jumped off the bus...
 
Correct paws, he’s actually a nice bloke Jeff, Does a lot of work with Dave howlett at endeavour sports high. Brian smith really took to him as a player and he made it to first grade, hood on him. Selby was a tragedy, great prospect. If your from that vintage paws the best guy I played against was a guy from Balmain who would have been a star in my opinion before a shocking compound fracture of the leg, Bruce Parnell, better than sironen and roach ….. imo opinion back in the day

You bring back great memories. I agree Parnell was better than Sironen, a great running second row forward. What a tragedy.

I was watching at Belmore when Parnell had his terrible injury,a mate of mine who had watched him all through his juniors also reckoned he was a future champion and we (Balmain) had lost a future Australian rep.
