Round 1: Las Vegas Discussion / *Spoilers*

I agree with you, however interesting that most of the biggest football leagues in the world have this very scenario (3 points if you win, while a total of 2 points shared by teams if a draw).
Thanks, I'm not a football guy so would never have known. Do they do extra time or penalties for the 3rd point?

I never said that . I said it rewards teams for competing . Teams that don’t compete don’t get the extra point . It also puts more value on the actual 80 minutes . Ie. if it ends in a draw both teams get the 1 point , then battle it out for a second . I don’t know where you’ve twisted yourself in a knot about fairness . I never mentioned fairness once . Does it mean a team can lose 4 times in golden point have the same amount of points as another who won 2 games . Yea so ! IMO there should be some reward for going 80 minutes without losing.
Technically they never actually lost in 80 mins. And GP is a crap shoot.
What you said is "it doesn't need to be fair"

The premise of the general discussion is the allocation of points is not fair, therefore we have engaged in a discussion about a superior points system which rewards a losing team in Golden Point to ensure a fairer distribution of points.

If fairness is not important, then we should keep the current system, not move to a differently unfair system where a team that wins 2 times in golden point and loses 3 times in regulation time by a field goal on the buzzer can earn less points than a team that has lost 5 golden point games.

We'd be the first ones complaining in the above scenario.

I hear what you're saying, but I view a golden point win as less than a regulation win, so of 4 points, the GP winner gets 3 and the loser gets 1. The regulation win should be the most valuable in my opinion.

Anyway...I am not PVL. It's up to him.

I still reckon that a draw at full-time should mean both teams get one competition point, THEN they play golden point overtime (5 each way) for the other competition point. It makes the 'Golden Point' name have a double meaning and would make the ladder a truer representation as currently a team losing by one in Golden Point gets the same as a team getting beat by 50. Ie. Nothing.
play for 3 points for a win
if a draw at 80 mins 1 point each
the winner at golden points gets the other 1 point
Dogs 2 points
Dragons 1 point

Dude you’re getting way too hyped over this . The fairness is in the fact that 2 teams slogged their guts out for 80 mins and it ended in a draw.
They each get 1 point each .
Now because the game has gone into overtime and broadcasters need a result , that overtime equates to a further point .
It doesn’t really affect anything , and I watch plenty of hockey , and teams that win in overtime or lose in overtime a lot , tend to be really good teams . So the idea that a team that wins more outright will be supplanted by a team who draws in overtime/ GP doesn’t really make sense. Because those further 10 minutes are 10 minutes that the other team didn’t have to play .
I think I said this already , it’s not a punishment for teams who didn’t win in GP or take teams there , but rather a reward for teams who did, and don’t get the chocolates.
anyways it was just another point of thought , it’s not really a hill I’m willing to die on , just an alternate idea . Definitely not worth the energy being put into it .

So 10 minutes play on top of 80 for nothing...hmmm

There was.notjing wrong with draws imo...just have it extra time 10 mins
still get at least 1 point for making it to gp
plsy gard for the extra point if not you walk away with 1 point.
10 minutes extra time is the right idea nor just golden point
