Daine Laurie reminds me of a former superstar named Ben Barba . They look eerily similar in playing style.

He kind of reminds me of the Melbourne fullback we let go. There’s not much to him .... but he’s all quality!!

Yea fair enough , I don’t see that comparison. He seems more skilful personally than Paps. Paps is like a bolt of electricity , he looks like he’s been shot out a gun half the time. Laurie looks , for lack of a better word , graceful to me . Which is how I used to view Ben Barba . Before I realised how that’s the exact opposite of who Ben is as a human .

I think Mbye has to be in fb come round 1. The bloke has been training all off-season there and is apparently killing it. Unfair for the bloke to give up his spot given he hasn't been able to trial.

Laurie is the fill in 6 for round 1.

I think I'd swap Seyfarth for Tuki while Blore is out.

Just watching the game again at the moment - Tuki certainly shows promising signs, there's a LOT of upside to this kid. Has a great offload too.

I'm surprised we stole him off cowboys to be honest they rated him up there. Guess he saw he has a bigger chance of first grade here plus the kiwi connection with madge helps

Heard the opposite but anyway ...they were concerned with how slowly he was dealing with the switch from union to league .....3 different dyed in the wool fans ....one with small links back to the club

I can tell you from someone in their org that they rated him highly but they are stacked in the back row and didn't think he would get an opportunity for a fair amount of time. They did the trade because they lack outside backs.

How’s it a misread if the backrower goes through, and you’re looking at your opposite centre ? Other than he didn’t jam in. Every magic ball ever passed is a misread somewhere.

How’s it a misread if the backrower goes through, and you’re looking at your opposite centre ? Other than he didn’t jam in. Every magic ball ever passed is a misread somewhere.

Its a misread because he dosent adjust to a backrow forward coming into his area of defence which he would be coached to do.Apart from that as i said he had a good game

I understand what people are saying re mbye. However what we have missed for a very long time is the fullback that is on the spot when people make a break. Laurie was that guy and as a result we sniffed out a few tries we wouldn't have got over the last few years.
Mbye was always a good defensive centre but Laurie is something else

I see the point here, but I mean, he has played fullback before at WT, and trained there in previous off seasons.

I thought he deserved to be there by default unless Laurie is a standout in the trials. Yesterday changed my mind.

If Laurie is going to be the eventual fullback anyway, makes sense to put him there from round 1 if he's ready so he grows into the role.

I'm honestly not sure where Mbye fits in now. Possibly at 6, but Madden did a pretty good job there yesterday.

I don't see it as Roberts fault he was left marking 2 players - Manly had 3 on 2 on that side - had Roberts come in Schuster would have just gone out the back to the FB who would have been unmarked. The problem was Tuialagi was too slow to slide across and take Schuster which would have allowed Douehi to slide and pick up the eventual try scorer.

At this stage of Madden's career the rest of the team, including Mbye, are way ahead. Madden is a work in progress, but progressing nicely.

How do you know what their defensive structures are ? He went through just slightly left of the centre corridor , to me it was a lack of communication from all involved , especially AD (I believe it was him). The way I read it , was roberts stayed out , AD was sliding with his inside man , and stopped dead at schuster , where he should have kept going to Turbo junior .

I’m not saying Roberts shouldn’t have jammed , but that’s I read it in the moment , not 1 persons error , but a lack of communication when sliding .
