LIVE GAME Round 19 v Warriors

Live Game Discussion
It’s interesting that this thinking of smaller players extends over years and a number of different coaches … to me it’s a game based on physicality and intimidation and size is obviously a big part of this…

One of the ex- coaches Madge went out and picked big and aggressive guys when he was Origin coach … and they won the series …maybe he learnt a lesson when he was here ?
Of course it is and to be frank it's something this club has got wrong for the best part of it's existence.
My memory isn't as good as it used to be, but really apart from a very short time under Mick Potter where we had Tapau and Gavet ripping into sides there has never been an intimidating WT pack.

Not only that, but when the game transitioned into large powerful backs, we still didn't adapt and were left behind. In a game like Rugby League if you don't have the physicality you are chasing your tail from the get go.

TBF, I don't think that size per-se is the issue. Cronulla are a huge pack. They have monsters like AFB, BHU, Rudolf, Hazelton, etc and are probably the biggest pack in the comp man for man. But their problem is that none of their forwards other than AFB have especially big motors, which is why the sharks always get mowed down at the end of their matches by fitter, more mobile packs. That match a few weeks ago at shark park where the wahs annihilated them was case in pt.

Halasima, Vaimauga, Ford, Clark aren't actually that huge. They are all maybe 6'1 and 100kg. But they all have crazy leg speed and footwork at the line that generates post-contact meters at will and a cheeky late offload that creates further ruck speed for Egan and co to exploit. Not to mention that their back five alone probably makes more meters than our entire pack, relieving further pressure on their forwards and keeping them fresh for defensive efforts. They are definitely the benchmark along with the dogs when it comes to driving middle defense and winning contact on tackles 1 and 2 in every set.

None of our forwards in our junior system fit that mould imo. KPP won't solve anything either. I'd be looking seriously at some of those wahs forwards in NSW cup who are killing it and won't ever get any NRL game time over there. Two kids in particular: (Kayliss Fatiolofa and Eddie Toeva I think their names are) are ones to watch for sure.

My point drippy is we are not expected to beat top 4 teams. What do u think I meant, people getting caught up in a bad performance. Top 4 teams at there home in a different country, it’s had for a bottom 4 teams to win. Especially with no rub of the green!
Please with all the excuses of not expecting us to beat top 4 teams. We can't beat bottom 4 teams. You accept this because you think Benji is as nice guy. He is paid to win games. Can't do it, see you later.

The dogs pack is not huge at all....but the D nullifies that....I love how they hunt as a pack in D....for the full game!

The pack aren't big, your right, but they are physical and they do have big outside backs. The Broncos have beaten them 3 out of 3 times (one of those admittedly a trial) so far this year by going straight through the middle. It's the Madge way, but you have to have the size to do it. Look how hard Haas, NAS and The big Manly prop who is out for the year (used to play 20's for us, name escapes me) are to stop when they come charging into the defence. Thats why Benji bought Hunt, but unfortunately for whatever reason he hasn't been able to get the best out of him. It's also a reason why most teams when they play us have a very simple gam plan, through the middle. There is no physical intimidation there and it's an issue that needs rectifying.

Generally speaking i believe "tame or friendly" referees allow the dogs a lot of latitude in regards to the 10 meters in defence and also early starts in moving up in defence. They seem to benefit from this far more than any other club.Just my thoughts.
