LIVE GAME Round 19 vs. Sharks

Live Game Discussion
Half of them are still learning to be professionals. Sheens says it takes 100 first grade games. Unless you put better professionals around them they're better off learning somewhere else.
They played with commitment last night, what is lacking is coaching, simple as that. They matched a top 3 team for the bulk of the game on sheer determination. The attack has no stucture whatsoever and when you give a team like the sharks the majority of possession, you're always going to come off second best. I'm pleased the score was as close as it was. Take away the doubtful double movement, Hyne's forward pass to Talakai and the final no try, the final score isn't too bad.

A lot of praise for Bula, and I understand he is young, developing and the least of our problems, but he is still a long way off being up to standard at fullback.

He misses his assignment on attacking plays more often than not. His first drop ball, off a Bateman pass, is an example of what I'm talking about. Standing deep and flat-footed not pushing forward to possibly create an overlap. His passing game is poor, partially due to his poor positioning and partially just not a great selective passer.

I'm confident he will improve this with more experience, an off season training as the first choice and better halves (if we actually manage to sign some). Just wanted to highlight how far off he remains.
You're just kidding, right?

I thought two of their tries were questionable - the double movement and also the last try where Bula appears to hit the ball from the wingers grasp. Gallen laughed when it wasn't reviewed.
Papa gets tipped on his head, nothing. T'oa does the same, penalty and on report. I'm over the game in general. Tiges were never going to win but the ref doesn't have to try to turn it into a flogging.

Considering Sheens probably had half an hour training with Will Smith at five-eighth in his inexperienced team, had three drop out from last week and is missing three quarters of his spine (which isn't that great anyway) that comment is utterly ridiculous and belongs in the Lee and Justin book of statements.

Go straight to CEO.
So what's your excuse for the other 11 games we've lost?

When was the last time you watched a game of the Tigers and didnt hope some ref call or some mistake from the opposition would give us a leg up?
It is sad.
We can only keep blaming others for so long... part of me feels the players have never been given the confidence they need from the club to believe in themselves and just be winners. There is always some new signing coming or better option out there except the player in the mirror who is wearing a Tigers jersey.

You're just kidding, right?
no, i think he is developing well and a prospect to be excited about for the future. I just think he is being massively overpraised for what he is delivering so far. On current performance he wouldnt be in the top 10 fullbacks. Sure, he has the attributes that he could one day be amongst the best fullbacks in the comp, but he is so far from it currently. Yet, he is being talked about as though he is already elite. I just think if we start expecting the world from him he could become another 'never lived up to the hype' player.

Our 30 man roster is not as good as our opponents. I said before a ball was kicked (on record) that it would take eight weeks before the team would gel. No pre-season given the world cup and so many new faces. Bateman wasn't fit. We were poor for seven weeks.

In week eight we played to our absolute potential and beat Penrith. A week later we played more like Wests Tigers and were lucky to beat St.George. We then had a night out against NQL when they were off. Then a heartbreaker against Canberra. Injuries now hit and our weak roster is badly exposed, our spine is non-existent.

Only Pascoe would blame coaching, our roster is and always has been weak. It's the reason we are always favourites for the wooden spoon. We just got rejected by the Fainu's - because it's obvious you don't win here.
You're right. We stand deep in formation from scrums and set plays, of which we have many. We establish a short blind and go wide with players in motion. Our decoy runners constantly have the opposition in two minds. I can't keep count of the number of offloads with players in support. Every single player is chasing tactical kicks. Oh, that's right, we don't do that because the entire roster just flat out refuses to follow instructions, no matter who plays where.

When you have a roster full of kids still learning the game, including some who were probably never going to make first grade when we gave them a roster spot, don’t expect perfection, or anything near it.

There’s a reason the club chases superstar players and there’s a reason they don’t want to come.
Not expecting perfection, just the basics. They are all capable but the game plan is so predictable. Please tell me the last time they looked like a well coached side.

playing predictable we cant even string 3 passes together, kaos hits,200 passes n we score

The game against Penrith in the rain the game plan was executed to near perfection. All bar Naden fulfilled their roles. Problem is they’re young and very inconsistent.
I like you BAG but you're clutching at straws. If the team that played last night could mount a sweep with a decoy or two from a short blind and get some numbers out wide, they are big enough and strong enough to score a few tries per game, especially with the forwards playing the way they have been. Everyone wants to blame Brooks, then Wakeham, then whoever else gets thrown into a position of influence but if the structure doesn't exist, "eyes up" footy ain't gonna work.

You’re forgetting the opposition is better than us. Guys like Katoa, Mulitano, Talakai, Hynes are simply a higher standard. We’re up against it from minute one.
Yes, they appear to be better because they are well coached and play as a team. Our boys haven't had the opportunity to show what they've got. They're all big enough and strong enough. Take players like Reimis Smith or Brenko Lee. You can look plain in a dud side but put into a good system.....
Hynes though, he's special.

Line speed was terrible. There was an easy 10 metres for the Sharks every hit-up. Sharks halves had all the time in the world to run at the lines, I'm surprised the score wasnt more. This actually improved for us when Blore and Seyfarth came on, not sure what they says about Stefano and Klemmer. Klemmer looked slow last night, his lateral movement at time a little like Tamou. He's carried this team this year, I wonder if he's over it now.

Line speed and tackling is back where it was last year when we had low rent forward pack. We're not going to compete with that effort. Prior to last week against the Cowboys our forward pack had been dominant this year (beside the Broncos game).

Usually @ElleryHanley has a big angry rant pointing out what went wrong after losses, but it's all just apathy now, hey? Another dud season with little to be positive about. We know there's ability with Bula, Tupou, To'a and a few others but it all just fades into the same old mediocrity.

On top of that we are so shallow in attack that the Sharks were on top of our players before they have one pass.

The rule that states you cant make a second movement after the arm holding the ball comes into contact with the ground.
You can slide in with momentum but you can't promote the ball whilst that momentum is sliding you toward but short of the line, which is what Hynes did. Sheens actually also raised this post game.
Yeah... He looked to be sliding with momentum to me

Will they be in our jersey though 🤷🏼‍♂️
I have to admit that, the first time I saw Bula I thought about how Teddy's going downhill so the Roosters will just wait a couple of years for JB to gain some experience and then strike.

We probably should lock him, Tupou and To'a up but they could well end up at Roosters, Storm or one of the Qld teams 🙁

lol yet every week hes getting more and more dangerous with the ball, he outplayed the sharks fullback who im not even sure if i noticed him once
people on here are just gonna say bad stuff about him no matter what yet the more expereince leader types have been getting worse and worse over the last few weeks
our forward pack was beating most teams but not anymore

A constructive rant Watersider 😉

To be honest...I did not comment post game last week as my son was in tears. His generation do not even know what success feels like. So, no time to post / trying to cheer him up for 30 mins after the game.

I personally am mainly focused on the juniors from here on this season...
