LIVE GAME Round 2 discussion *spoilers*

Live Game Discussion
So far the winning teams this round have been playing at speed that the other team can’t keep up with. That is the benchmark. Until we play with that sort of speed and intensity we will be lower than higher. Let’s see how we come out against Parra. Apparently it’s going to be 37^ by kick off. So could be anything.

Wayne Bennett the coach from HOGWARTS waves his wand and gets 2 wins from 2 games with a team missing a handful of stars
Don't know how he does it but he does !!
. . . . . . . . . and we refused to wait for him, and in fact could have had him even earlier as things turned out. 🤣

What a bunch of dipshits.

All his players are effort players they don't have to have the most skills but they have to compete and effort

Defence is effort and the will to compete

I think Benji is trying to do the same at the Tigers

Watching that Humphreys kid at souths just snap a 1 pointer from a bad ball and with ease was incredible, just nailed it with 5mins to go.

Hope we have that composure.

So the 55 missed tackles last week was an aberration ! I don’t think Benji, or his assistants, ( so far) have brought any defensive or attacking strategies that have actually worked. Now I know we’re all being patient, and he’s praised them for effort etc. etc. etc. but the time is fast approaching where he needs to correct the problems and go forward.
But i guess it’s a huge struggle for a guy who played, and tackled, in such an unstructured way like he did, to be able to impart any wisdom re the necessary modern day footy structures.
All we can do is pray for a miracle.🙏🙏
And hope we can play like some of the other teams I’ve watched over the weekend. Go the Tigers.

The effort was in the scrambling defence

What a difference a week makes so far Turbo 5 errors and at least 3 missed tackles
The 6-0 repeat sets count is helping the Warriors
The NRL is truly a ‘best attitude’ league now apart from the few teams who are just more classy when the games count more. Hopefully we have the best attitude/want today.

I'm not sure about that statement. Dragons played pretty fast but ran out of steam/composure & were worn down by the Bunnies.

Brisbane played fast & dumb. Canberra just bullied them.

Hal, I think perhaps you are looking for something that isn't there. Benji has definitely changed the attack strategy - it is clunky at the moment but we are deliberately playing flat and fast. It doesn't look as flashy or pretty as a deep attack with flashy block plays and plyers in motion - but it is effective. Watch Penrith on the opposition's line - they play the same way (but are better drilled). That funky retreat backwards into the line by Cleary is him setting himself to take advantage of any switch that occurs because the play hits the wall.

In defence we are still sliding, but also playing a bit of up and in. the number first up tackles that didn't stick in round 1 was a problem but the scramble and effort was there. Our ability to hold off six sets on our line yesterday was a pretty goog indication that we are heading in the right direction there too.

Overall I think our defensive strategy is more mature, but our style of play on both sides of the pill are still under development. I think the foundations have been laid and we are building.

I think the real question is will we have enough points at the end of the year to make the finals. If we do we should be well developed at the right time of the season. If not, we will need to wait until 26 to see the fruits of our labour.
