Round 3 - Western Suburbs Magpies vs Newtown Jets

see this is why you annoy the bejesus out of me sometimes crouching…..

Consistancy/predictability....

Wests had several changes to the team named. Daniella replaced Aiga which forced Pritchard to the wing. Moors started in the second row which forced regular goal kicker Morton to the bench. Akeripa was announced on the bench but wasn't used.

Wests started well and had good completion rates. Keppa scored the first from Waters grubber. The second was scored by Daniella who backed up a trademark Pritchard break from a kick return which started from 10m from Wests goal line. Keppa missed both. One from the side line and the other from about 15m to the right if the posts into a strong wind.

Two tries to the Jets before halftime through some poor defence enable the Jets to take a lead into the break.

Moors then exploded in the second half making metres and off loading with ease out wide. A barn storming display by Junior. His first try levelled the scores. Palming of players and crashing over the line in a powerful run out wide. The conversion missed once again.

The Jets scored the next after powerful forward running which resulted in some poor missed tackles.

Wests scored with a few minutes on the clock. Moors was the man again as he scored his second powerful try. Morton now on the field kicked the goal with the wind from about 15m to the side of the posts.

Some poor one on one tackles really cost Wests the match.

Best - Moors, Waters, Keppa

Moors giving Sheens something to think about too from the sounds of it.

Not necessarily…Moops just played in his natural position and dominated..

I reckon he would have gone well against the Eels running wide of the ruck also.

Sounds like a Moops did well. Great stuff. Did George Keppa do enough to take Mitch Browns spot for the Raiders game?

Well…the half Cyprian half New Guinean.....scored a try......

It's Moors...wide running backrower....who'd of thunk it!!!!

**2nd Minute**: Western Suburbs give away a penalty and the Jets are attacking the Western Suburbs line. The fifth tackle option from the Jets is poor and the attack comes to nothing.

**4th Minute:** Charlie Leaeno is wreaking havoc in attack. The Jets are a man down as Troy Savage is down in back play.

**6th Minute:** TRY to George Keppa. Wests take advantage of the Jets man out of defence and Keppa picks up the grubber from Nathan Waters. Keppa's conversion attempt is unsuccessful. Western Suburbs 4 lead Newtown 0.

**10th Minute:** A penalty to Newtown has them attacking the Wests line through Tinirau Arona on tackle three. Newtown are looking good in attack but their execution is just lacking the polish.

**17th Minute:** TRY to Wests Geoff Daniela after winger Rhys Pritchard scooted down the sideline and links up with Daniela. Conversion unsuccessful. Wests 8 lead Newtown 0.

**21st Minute:** The Jets completion rate is below 50 % and coach Greg Matterson would not be happy with his chargers. The Jets need to take advantage of what is a two try wind.

FULL TIME (Bundaberg Red Cup) Bankstown City Bulls 44 def.Campbelltown Eagles 32

26th Minute: a penalty in the ruck against Wests gives Newtown their best chance in attack for some 15 minutes. The Jets are inches away on tackle two.

29th Minute: The Jets come up with a poor option on tackle five as Jason Wells is caught with the ball out wide. They needed to get a repeat set as the Magpies look to be tiring.

33rd Minute: TRY to Newtown centre Kane Linnett . the Jets play some structured football and they make it look easy. Conversion successful. Wests 8 lead Newtown 6.

37th Minute: TRY Linnett is in again! and the Jets are back in front. Sustained pressure coupled with a quality kicking game has helped the Jets arise from their slumber. Conversion successful. Newtown 12 lead Wests 8.

HALF TIME HERE AT HENSON - NEWTOWN HAVE COME BACK TO LEAD 12 POINTS TO 8\. THE MAGPIES HAVE THE WIND IN THE SECOND HALF BUT THE JETS LOOK BACK TO THEIR BEST. THE SECOND HALF SHOULD BE A RIPPER SO SIT BACK AND ENJOY.

42nd Minute: TRY to Junior Moors on the back of a penalty in the ruck. Conversion by George Keppa is unsuccessful. Newtown 12, Wests 12.

46th Minute: a confident Luke Towers leaves a Nathan Waters grubber go dead in goal. Newtown are making their way out of their own half through Ryan Verlinden.

51st Minute: The Jets are making a tonne of yards up the middle but they seem to want to throw the ball wide. They have the ruck dominance but aren't using it to dominate the game. Score remains 12-all here at Henson.

55th Minute: Game still in the balance here. The Jets are hitting the Magpies up the middle on tack three through their big forwards in Verlinden and Leaeno.

60th Minute: The Magpies have the ball in good field position and that is helped by another penalty against Newtown for being inside the 10\. A try here will make it hard for Newtown into the wind.

65th Minute: A relieving penalty gets the Jets some good field position and they are hitting the ball up through Jason Wells.

66th Minute: TRY to that man again, Kane Linnett! Linnett cuts back on the angle and scores under the sticks making the conversion academic for Chris Tutara-Morrison. Newtown 18 leading Wests 12.

71st Minute: Andrew Everingham coughs up a massive Johnathan Ford bomb and the Jets have a chance to close out the match.

73rd Minute: The Jets get another set of six on the Wests line as the Magpies tap down a pass from Johnathan Ford.

74th Minute: The Jets cough up the ball and the Magpies now have the ball 40 metres out and get six more tackles. Big set of six here!

75th Minute: The Magpies cough it up and you would think that would be it. The Jets need a solid set and a good kick for touch. Foran can't find touch and now Wests have the ball 40 Metres out from their own line…..A penalty to Wests presents the Magpies with another chance to snatch a draw!

77th Minute: try to Junior Moors... Gareth Morton takes over the kicking duties and is looking to tie it all up....Could we have two draws in one days? Morton's conversion is successful! All tied up 18-all here with just minutes remaining.

79th Minute: Wests fumble the ball over the sideline handing Newtown an out but Liam Foran can not bury the field goal. ANOTHER DRAW!

FULL TIME HERE AT HENSON - 18 ALL IN AN ABSOLUTE CRACKER! WHAT A DAY! SEE YOU ALL NEXT WEEK!

Should have also added -

- Daniella made a huge hit on a bigger Jets player and forced him to drop the ball. Maybe he can tackle ? lol

- with 10 secs to go Wests took a tap restart after the failed Jets field goal. Waters grubbers through for himself and raced down field the ball went through the hands up to the Jets 40m line but the final pass went astray and was dropped by butter fingers Everingham, If a faster player like DAniella or Pritchard was backing up on the inside of Waters it would of been damn interesting !!

Typical Rorters and Sharkies….can't develop their own players so they come to scout the Mighty Western Suburbs
Magpies.....pffft...Look out Rhys...their coming to poach you....

Netown is the Roosters feeder side so thats why they would be at Newtown

Also remember Geo that Ashford was an Endevour junior contracted to the Roosters guess could say we poached one of the combined ones lol

Yes MT….I know all about Asyhford remember him at 5/8th in the Arrive alive cup beat Kebra 2006/7? in the final.....

Seem to remember to the Rorters didn't want him....wrist injuries at the time or something....Lucky McDonnell saw the potential.....

I swear one of the Newtowns tries, I think it was their second try, seemed to come off a forward pass made before the line break and the Newtown winger ran on the line when he had the ball. The touchy was only a few meters from the pass and when he ran on the line but I saw it from where I was. Newtown are cheats.
