TEAM LIST Round 4 vs. Storm

Team List
Would you want him to continue trying things that don't work? I don't get it
Just some thoughts on the new team .The last sentence was just a statement of fact not a criticism!
I'm impressed with our pack but not with our backline .

I have been trying to look at this from a different perspective to my own to understand the changes.

I would have dropped AD like a hot rock after the last two efforts. If he was playing with turf toe last weekend I can't see it being too much better after the short turn around so not sure why he has been considered for this week. I also thought, like many, that Staines did pretty well at the back and was pushing up around the ruck at the right times. I can only imagine that Sheens doesn't approve of his quiet approach - although surely this could be developed in a young player like him.

Wakeham's call up simply had to come - not much left in the cupboard besides him, and his cameo performance on Sunday was significantly better than the games of Brooks and AD combined to that point. Wakeham certainly turned it around and Brooks seemed to improve off the back of it. Do the simple things well and we see what happens.

So what does Sheens see in AD at fullback that we aren't? I expect that AD isn't afraid to use his voice so that may be something Furner believes we are missing in our defensive makeup. Certainly not having him in the line makes us less vulnerable on his edge. I doubt he is going to make anyone really earn a try if they break through the line but if our structure is right he is a big body that could make the most of momentum and the sideline in cover. Something both Staines and Daino lack. Not sold but I think I understand the thinking.

In attack he isn't going to be fast enough to push up around the ruck like Tedesco or Paps; however, he could be used in a more Latrell Mitchell type of role hitting holes out wide. Given his passing game is ...... well shit to be honest .... we may actually see some ball get to the outside backs. At fullback he may be an attacking weapon, I guess we will just have to wait and see. My recollections of him in attack as a fullback is that he wasn't great; but I don't recall him being woeful (like at 5/8) so given we have him until the end of 24 I guess we need to see what we can do with him (although reggies would be a better place to experiment in my book)

My fear is that he will be caught out by Munster's kicking game due to his lack of speed. I expect Staines and Tupou will have some work to do in support so if they can work hard we may overcome the deficiency. Working hard to cover AD at the back will leave us vulnerable to fifth tackle options with the ball in hand. You can bet Munster will make us pay if we overcommit to the back.

Overall, not happy with it, but I think it is workable, as long as AD has an attitude adjustment this week. If he runs on kicking stones he should be hooked immediately.

Joffa - like him, but performance was below par and deserved to be hooked. I trust he can get fit and come back strong later in the season. Seyfath as a replacement - tries hard, but not FG standard I'm sorry. Nothing really gained there. ICE back is a bonus though.
Nofa - no issues - shouldn't have even started the season.

My final observation. If Sheens is hooking players for poor performances he has learnt something while he has been away from Tigerland! Good to see that changes have been made; unless of course your name is Luke.

Ha, I knew Doueihi would be retained. Sheens preempted it in the presser. Sorry Tim but it sends the wrong messages;
1. You can play like crap and lose games on your own but still hold your place.
2. You can play well in a key position and still be shuffled out to a secondary position.
3. People who talk a lot, but whose performance don't match their words, will get listened to more than a highly effective but quiet individual.

The worst part about this is fullback is a key position not a secondary position. So he remains hugely influential on the result which scares me

While I would have preferred Staines stay at the back in lieu of moving someone who has had arguably the worst game of their career there, Wakeham while not a superstar definitely appears to give our attack some direction. Trials inclusive the only time this team has looked dangerous is when he was in the halves. If he is left to run the game and Brooks can just run the ball we may be in with a sniff. Hopefully Kepaoa continues his good form in the centres.

Would prefer Matamua or James on the bench over Seyfarth, James isn't top 30 though is he?

Great to see Wakeham starting. Daine on the bench will send a message to Douehi, perform or you’ll be hooked. I guess the same can be said about Brooks as Daine could play either FB or 5/8.
Seyfarth in for Joffa is interesting, another message to an under performer? I hope Seyfarth has earnt it. Good to see Simpkin back in the 22, hope he is back as our 14 soon. Also good to see Tupou & Staines kept on the wing in place of Nofo. Overall looks as though the under-performers have been dropped or at least will be replaced during the game if they don’t perform.

Rip in boys & please, support the ball-runner!

Yes PLEASE support the ball runner

Mate I like your input and opinions on the forum but just want to say that I completely understand this particular post in regard to positions and what you are pointing to,however I would like to say that every position is equal at NRL level of rugby league, they are professional players contracted on big money to play in a TEAM environment where each and everyone has to do their job to win games...
I presume that a fair opinion would be that the spine is key to a winning, consistent and well organised team, that would be correct, its like a top car,it wont run without a fully working motor or wheels to get it mobile and moving...
The spine needs to be strong at this level, but if the forwards are not of quality and moving forward then the spine cant do its job properly neither can the rest of the team...
I just wanted to use this small analogy of the "car" just to put it into perspective how I see it because in my opinion at this level of the game there are no secondary positions, its a team game and all have to do their job to achieve the objective to win the game....cheers @aturkey ..

Premier pep talk: Perrottet gatecrashes Wests Tigers training

Dominic Perrottet gave an impromptu pep talk to his beloved Wests Tigers on Thursday morning as the NSW premier and NRL strugglers try to overcome the odds and celebrate respective victories this weekend.

Roughly 12 hours after going head-to-head with Labor leader Chris Minns in the final debate ahead of Saturday’s election, Perrottet spotted the Tigers players shuffling across the bridge behind Concord Oval, and asked club CEO Justin Pascoe if he could address the players.

A passionate Tigers fan, Perrottet told the players about how they had started the 2005 season in similar sluggish fashion, only to go on and win the premiership, beating North Queensland in a grand final few saw coming.

The Tigers play the Storm in Melbourne on Friday, hoping to avoid an 0-4 start to the latest campaign.

Tigers coach Tim Sheens was happy to welcome Perrottet, and regularly stressed himself how a slow start was not an indicator of how the remainder of the season would pan out.

“He didn’t turn up here deliberately, he was driving past as we were going across the road,” Sheens told the Herald.

“Normally we train here [at Concord Oval], but the ground is undergoing renovations.

“It was great he could stop given his workload at the moment. He knew where we were [on the ladder] and what the story was. It was a nice little stop.”

For the record, a Tigers-Coalition double is paying $19.25 with the bookies.

The Tigers, meanwhile, have shifted Adam Doueihi to fullback for the clash against the Storm. The hosts have lost Jahrome Hughes to suspension, but welcome back Cameron Munster.

Doueihi could yet remain at fullback, especially if Brandon Wakeham and Luke Brooks click in the halves.

The Lebanese international has been struggling with turf toe, and did not complete Thursday’s final traning session, but is still expected to line up at AAMI Park.

Sheens said Doueihi was “quite happy” about the move from five-eighth to the No. 1 jersey.

There were whispers at the start of the season about Doueihi moving to fullback from next year, especially if Mitchell Moses finally made up his mind about his 2024 plans.

“If you look at the World Cup where Adam played for Lebanon, his size, when he chimes in on the edges, he’s a big fullback, and big fullbacks like Latrell [Mitchell] are hard to nail one-on-one with the football,” Sheens said.

“He’s got the good skills to get the ball away, and he reads the game very well, obviously being an ex-halfback and five-eighth — he’s not an ex — but he can still play there. At the moment, with him reading the game and organising the offence is a bonus for us.”

Daine Laurie started the season at fullback and will return via the bench against Melbourne. Jahream Bula has plenty of raps, but is a development player and unavailable for first-grade selection until midway through the year.

Sheens said “we’ll soon see” if Doueihi’s best position was No. 1, but reserved judgment on whether the switch would be permanent.

“This week it’s what we need with what we’ve got available ... I’m not prepared to say it will be a permanent move,” Sheens said.

Big-money winger David Nofoaluma will return to reserve grade, but Sheens said he remained in the club’s plans, and “he’s taken it well, he’ll put in a good effort on Saturday when he plays State Cup”.

I got a lot of confidence listening to Api in the post game presser. Very impressed with his determination to get the boys pushing up around the ruck as we saw in the last 20min at Belmore.
Now that Koroisau, Brooks and Bateman have some game time in their legs, and with Papali'i back, this is a good time to get our first win! Just need to get numbers around Munster and Grant.
