OFFICIAL Royce Hunt #298

He basically said he wanted to stay at the Sharks next year and then retire, thats where his head was. Then the opportunity of a 3 year deal was too much security to ignore.

It actually sounded very concerning IMO. Almost like he admitted he signed a retirement package.

Let's hope the attitude he showed in his first interview when he signed is the one he brings.
But, but, he told Benji that he'd do whatever was required for the team.

Starting, longer minutes, better fitness, more stints, blah, blah, blah.

Sorry it was not 53 metres it was 57 against Parramatta and just pointed out his stats he owns them no one else
Why didn’t you point to his tackle breaks? Is that because hes the best by far at breaking tackles? I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do at Storm with runners following him.
btw, nobody in our team backs up a player like Stefano did. He’s leaves a massive hole. We’ll struggle to get off the bottom next year without him. Richo was visibly very unhappy to lose him.

I think the Stef in the first few rounds is a big loss, but the one that played in the last 4 rounds is no loss at all.

He'll do well at the Storm with other good players to make him look good, but it's clear he doesn't have the consistency to perform at a high level without help. Papali'i and Fainu didn't have this problem.

Ice is a bigger loss, as soon as he moved back to the middle he was one of our best forwards consistently.

I agree

The quote definitely makes it sound like he's here for a retirement package.

Hope the footballing department did proper interviews and all to make sure he is what we need at this club. However, the main thing is whatever his motivations are, we need to learn to extract the best out of these guys. Give them sports psychologists, counsellors whatever is required but they need to be aware that these 3 years are going to be the toughest of his life and he needs to be ready for that.

I would suggest they should wear a "Lie Detector" at the job interviews.
They all preach how good they are; no injuries, body great, will be great for the side, train hard, mentor juniors etc

That is the type of leadership we were looking for when we offered him a long term deal

Despite loving my previous place of employment, I was offered more money to work at my current employer.
I had mixed emotions about leaving and saw myself there long term, but it wasn't to be.
I expressed that to people at the time.
Fast forward 6 months and I am loving my current employer even more and have grown in my role and I've gone up a gear....

Royce is a human. He built relationships. He had a plan in his head and it didn't come to fruition.
Interview him again in 12 months...
If the messaging is the same then we should worry.
But it's only natural to feel sad about leaving somewhere you've spent a lot of time and developed great relationships.

Once a slug always a slug. Doesn't get targetted in defence because he is back off before they realise he is on the field.

We need to improve in this space. Belllyache puts kids on worksites to find out what they’re made of. When your spending millions of dollars on blokes you would think we’d do some due diligence.

My god you can dribble....
He was talking about retiring - Shy of 30, with less than 100 games....
That's not relationships, That's "I'm ringing it in" and "My hearts not in it"

Heard Harry on the radio saying Belly is on the Storm boys podcast this week
- Should be an interesting listen.
