Just like to say a big hello from England!

I have always had a liking towards Wests and they are my "other team" shall we say and I thought I'd get to know the team better by getting a fan perspective rather than a half hour show over here showing highlights.

I'm a St Helens fan from SL and our coach next year will be Royce Simmons and I just wanted to introduce myself to you lot and ask whether you rate him? I honestly do not know much about the guy and I hope he will be a good enough coach to keep us strong next season.

What are people's opinions on the guy?

Royce has been blamed for a lot of our defensive issues over the past 5 years
he also has a fetish for witches hats (apparently)
Whilst he has no doubt helped keep the ship upright at Concord, I'd say a lot of people are happy to see him go

This should be good….

Sheens rates Royce the equal to any Coach he has come up against at all levels..

personally I think a lot of his work goes un noticed...the quite achiever..

If someone with the credentials as Tim Sheens rates Roycie then that's a huge endorsement in my eyes. I think he has been unfairly talked about by a lot of people here, especially when they don't know what goes on behind closed doors. The problem is fans see things as black and white but there's always that shade of grey. I think Royce would have learned a lot from Tim and also Steve Folks even though he's only been here a year. I think Saints will be in safe hands and I have a feeling he'll be sussessful in the UK. Good Luck Royce and good luck Saints!

The defensive issues that was brought up concerns me a little. Our defence is poor at the minute going into the play-offs under Potter and it has been on the slide for a few seasons.

Yes, on our forum there was talk of Sheens really rating him and that's all we could go off really, we know that he wasn't really a success at Penrith so we just hope we got the right man

Gets a huge wrap from tigers players and ex players in the media. He is known as a terrific footballing brain, Very Dry wit ,

Wishing him the best of luck.

He should do OK over there as long as you have some decent players

He didnt have much aof a squad at Penrith bar 1 or 2 players, came in on the back of the Fittler era..

No matter what peopel think, he's served an apprenticeship I dont think any other coach could have….has the experience.

With the squad you have he will go well.

Fair enough, I think any coach needs decent player to be fair.

I can't say I agree with you really about our squad, it's not the best in the league and we are going through a transition period really with key players moving on like Keiron Cunningham.

I do hope the majority of you are right, we were all abit like this before Daniel Anderson came over and he turned out to be a fantastic coach for us.

Daniel Anderson??? Sorry.but i think he is too overrated for me even with those awards in his bag :frowning:

DA is the best coach we have had in the Super League era, he turned us from an attacking force with a leaky defence to having the best defensive record in the league and we won everything in 2006.

The NRL is in a completely different league to our SL so it will be much tougher
