Ruck Referees ??

Could an answer to the Alex MacKinnon injury be a simple one to prevent it happening again

On NRL 360 Willie Mason proposed a ruck referee

So you would have a referee marking the defensive 10 One marking the attack line and one policing the ruck

Robbie mentioned "Not another referee " which I understand totally "

But this referee job is to simply call held and can also tell players if they have an opposing player in a bad situation to let go of his legs , hands between the legs etc

Could a ruck referee have prevented what happened to Alex Quite possibly ??

What are others opinion Mine is it is worth a trial for sure to see if it works

Could be a good stepping stone for new refs coming through as well

NRL will have to put something in place , they don't have a choice

If another player was to get hurt this weekend , they would get hammered in court for not putting the players safety as paramount importance

MAYBE if we suspend players for 12 week for ANY lifting…..they will cut it out.

Lifting isn't accidental..isn't crucial to the game...you only see it every now and then....it can be stamped out.

Every time a player is picked up we all have had that horrible thought in our heads...."one day someone won't get up"

That day has arrived

The biggest problem when a player is lifted in the air in the modern game with three man tackles is the attacker has no way of protecting himself

The other defenders have locked your arms up to prevent offloads and when you are lifted you can't put your arm out to protect your fall

The other issue that hasn't been mentioned is this

How will this affect junior numbers in the game

I know my wife brought it up about being concerned now that the young fella has been moved to the forwards

I agree with your mrs happy. Jnr footy has never been safer. I only have to think back to when I played over 30 years ago. But as a parent you can't help but worry about the kin. My boys are to young to play sport yet but the latest events are almost forcing my hand to push them towards other sports - like soccer (and I hate soccer).

That's two boys who won't be playing footy. How many others I wonder are like me. And how does that effect the future of our game.

I love league and the game sooo much. But I I love my kids a hell of a lot more. Testing times for the NRL.

Just curious mate, are you pushing your boys to play soccer because you feel it is a safer sport with less chance of injury?
