At some point early afternoon , people started climbing fences to get in and the sheer weight of people at the gate still trying to get in meant the gates were open and an estimated 20,000 more people crammed in putting the estimate for the crowd closer to 100,00
As seen here fans actually climbed onto the roof or the awning of roofed section on the hill to get a birds eye view

We were so crushed police lifted us over the fence to watch the game Billy smith scored a try right in front of us in the sheridan hill corner
Ironically, a couple of lads on the sheridan roof were bob fulton and Peter peters.
Kevin Longbottom kept on kicking goals from halfway to keep souths in the game- col pearce was the referee and you knew it would be a fair game with him in charge- not like today.
