Gary Dowling’s sister was a teacher at my primary school when he tragically died in a car accident aged only 30 in the 1980s

Born in 1941, during his rugby league career, Ted Ellery played with Lithgow Workers, Portland, Cootamundra, Nambucca Heads, Nyngan, Brisbane Brothers and PNG team Kone Tigers
He typically featured in the forwards as a tough, hard-running second-rower but was highly versatile, frequently appearing on the wing and being used off the bench.

A relentless "run hard, hit hard" competitor known for playing with absolutel guts, grit and enthusiasm
Ted was most famous for his exploits for Western Division, the 1974 Amco Cup winners and will forever be remembered as part of that success
He played a crucial role in the teams success, having been injected off the bench astutely by coach Johnny King

A tireless work ethic and his distinctive domed head look, quickly made him a national favourite which caught the eye and earned him the nickname 'TV Ted'

I used to know a couple of people who would always go on his Kangaroo supporters tours,they used to say what a great bloke he was and the tours were the best trips they ever had overseas.

Met Frank a few times when I was very young. He was close cousin to my uncle and I can recall his family sing songs over their few beers. Irish to the core. 😀
