Fellow forumers please clarify a rule if you know. James McManus took a Bronco kick and ran 100 meters to score a try. He had one foot in the in-goal area when he caught the ball so doesn't that constitute a 20m restart?

No Skando and Hodgo He must have both feet grounded in the in goal area for a 22 restart

You are probably thinking about the dead ball or side line rule when you need one foot over for out on the full

Correct Happy, its playon mate.

Think about it for a bomb catch….if a player did this and was tackled in goal the result would be a line drop out as having one foot either side of the tryline indicates that you are in the field of play.

One foot either side of the sideline is OUT.
One foot either side of the deadball line is OUT.
One foot either side of the tryline is the opposite...it is considered IN play...therefore he was right to playon and score...showed some good toe too!

Boys just as I thought RE the 20m restart. The boys on the roast just confirmed that McManus had 1 foot planted in goal when he took the ball therefore the refs should have ordered him to the 20m for a restart. Another example of the officials getting a simple rule wrong!!!!! Lucky it didn't have an impact on the result….

I think they mis interpreted that play. Fletcher seemed to think that the bloke was fully in-goal when he caught it.

I'll check the rules but I am sure that what Happy and myself said is correct.

Yep. OP is right.
You don't need both feet only 1.
Think about it in the way that a player puts one foot over the dead ball line so a kickoff is 'out on the full' same applies for the In goal area.
