Its starting to look like ''If you wanna kill your rep career - WTs is the place to be"…I'm afraid

It has always been like that since our inception though, even when Hoppa, Skando, Prince etc were playing footy deserving of an Origin spot they never got a look in. Origin (NSW team especially) has always been a case of whether you play in one of the NRL's favoured teams IMO (Dragons, Bulldogs) more so than how good you are.
The Bunnies are top of the comp and can only manage 2 players in Origin game 1 as well.

Besides Reynolds, who can you make a strong case for? thats what happens when you pack your side with Pommies and Islanders.

It's not about having to make a strong case for anybody, I am not a Rabbitoh-lover by any stretch. But maybe Merritt deserved to be chosen in his position on the field that he plays every week instead of switching Ferguson from centre to a position he doesn't play in. Maybe Sutton deserved to be chosen over a bloke that has been chosen strictly on the premise that something may happen to the starting hooker and that the coach has publicly stated may not even get on the field if Farah plays 80 minutes. That is a borderline lunacy policy.

Sutton is over-rated. Just riding the wave of a great team. Where was he all those yrs Souths were losing? And Merritt is a good finisher thats about it. Both guys are good club players, but being a good club player doesn't make you an Origin player. Great club players are a dime-a-dozen.

Pretty sure that is a winger's main job on a footy field isn't it? :unamused:

Agree that Sutton is overrated but isn't Josh Reynolds as well? Seems to make more sense picking a bloke who is actually guaranteed of getting some game time than some bloke who is there in case of a "what if" situation. Maybe NSW should pick that young bloke who debuted for Newcastle last night, Manatello, as a back-up goalkicker for Wednesday night just in case Maloney's haemorrhoids flare up on game day and he can't take the kicks at goal. :deadhorse:

Yeah it is, and NSW chose two wingers who are better finishers than he is. Case closed.

reynolds would run harder at the line than sutton would despite his body frame.

in saying that, just like most other people, i woulda preferred tim grant over both of them (in the starting line-up itself)

Haha, that is your opinion. And what facts are there to say that Morris and Ferguson are better finishers than Merritt?, pretty sure there aren't any TBH. Isn't Merritt the leading tryscorer so far again this year? Wasn't he the leading tryscorer in the NRL last year and at least once in the 5 years before that?
Morris hasn't been in great form this year and hasn't played a game for 3 or so weeks. Ferguson is a centre.
Flimsy argument I'd say.
Case open.

And the opinion of the selectors. so yeah case closed.

If Ferguson or Morris were on the end of that backline they'd be leading try scorers too.

But they aren't the leading try scorers. You know the old saying about "if's"…if your Aunty had a set of figs she would be your uncle. Do you reckon Morris' form this year and his not having played recently warrants his selection? He is a great winger when he is in form but they have picked him on past performances surely.

corey norman has more try assists than any one else in the comp.. should he be the 5/8 over thurston?

these teams are mostly picked on potential rather than form. jennings was picked off state cup last year and killed it at origin. merrin is a solid first grader much like beau ryan, mitch brown, joel reddy etc. nothing more nothing less.

morris was an incumbent, what has he done wrong? he has been part of multiple origins, we all know what he can do. he was the one who made that try saving tackle between the goal posts on inglis that won us the game last year.

ferguson hasn't scored as many tries mainly coz he plays centre.

Why pick Ferguson on the wing then? Pick players in their correct positions, playing players out of position all the time like NSW do is crazy…no wonder it is 7 straight.

merritt will never play origin his defence is shocking. Inglis would run straight over Merritt in origin and he has no x factor. Hayne was picked out of position on the wing for 14/16 games and has done very well. Case closed back to Fifita and he will never come back to the Tigers with players at the Sharks like Gallen, Lewis, Carney, Heigho, Graham, Gordon etc

yep, if koro can wreck merritt like that in a team down 38-0 imagine what inglis will do when the game is in the balance.

Going to remind you of this if he comes back.

And you should be banned for life if he doesn't. Why would you think I have enough spare time to read such unsubstantiated crap?

Ditto.

Fifita is more likely to bowl savagely tweaked leg spin against the poms at Lords than he is to come back to us. Just because some of you morons want something to happen doesn't make it worthy of public announcement.

Anyone here who hasn't turned 12 yet … you are free to leave.

Ferguson has played half his career on the wing.
