A report from the SMH.com.au has suggested that the NSW Organised Crime Squad has gathered evidence suggesting secret salary top-up payments have been made to players from several clubs.

It’s believed that Manly is suspected to have engaged in salary cap breaches similar to those undertaken by the Paramatta Eels.

Parramatta were be docked 12 competition points and fined $1 million for breaches of the salary cap dating back to 2013.

In addition, the NRL has cancelled the registration of five officials at the club.

“We have to take a stand to demonstrate that the NRL will not tolerate contraventions of the salary cap which plays such a crucial role in giving us one of the closest competitions in Australian sport,” NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said at the time.

Ha what a surprise … just read it on Reddit.com website.
Wonder how the NRL big end of town are going to gloss this one over.

THIS IS GOOD NEWS, but when or if, will the nrl get around to the real rooters, eg: broncos, rosters and the new rooters the sharks.

Manly is a strange one to come under investigation. Although they did fit DCE in their books, released Watmough and not many others. I had heard that Steve Matai is the problem player because he is injured. They want to retire him under insurance but triple M were saying (rabs I think) that they can't find him and get him to a doctor).

Mate that lot always seem to escape scrutiny! Never any questions asked about how Brisbane and Easts, in particular, manage to buy all the top players and still retain most of their squad each season, but if any of the other 13 teams step even slightly out of line, they're onto it like flies on crap!

Ha! Shame they won't investigate the roosters or broncos, They seem like untouchables

I'd be gobsmacked if Tigers ever had anything to do with over-cap secret payments. We just don't operate that smoothly, we would have been found out already!

But stuff Manly, it would be my dream come true if Roosters ever got caught for this, I'd be smiling from ear to ear to see Uncle Nick raked over the coals.

Yep the tigers would have in written in the contract somewhere 'every Friday Jonty will drop a bag off $5000 into your mail box'

Mhmmm Dylan Walker is one of the players who has not been paid a TPA Payment.. wasn't there a rumour couple of weeks back saying he's keen on a move..

Now, we just sit back and wait for a handful of other clubs to be found out over similar cap breaches (which I'm sure will eventuate) due to mismanagement of the expected cap. Then we will be able to really hit the market with the cap space we have left.

I'm sort of disappointed we spent so much of the cap so quickly, especially since I'm not 100% sold on some of the talent in our ranks, including McQueen's form, Matulino's knees, etc. Let's hope the inevitable 2018 fire sale will change my mind about our recruitment.

Yes, Andrew Moore on abc grandstand stated that Dylan Walker wanted out of his deal a few weeks back.

Starting to make sense

Interesting how the NSW Organised Crime Squad has gathered evidence. Has this been passed on by the NRL or has this evidence been gathered separately from the NRL?

Manly suspected of salary cap breaches as scandal engulfs NRL

The integrity of the NRL is under a cloud with players from several clubs being investigated for taking secret benefits or cash payments in a likely breach of salary cap rules.

The Manly Sea Eagles are suspected of breaching the salary cap via secret payments to at least one player in previous seasons, according to information gathered by NSW police and NRL officials.

But it is understood Manly are not the only club under scrutiny, with the past behaviour of several other clubs also attracting police attention.

In revelations that pose a significant challenge for the NRL and chief executive Todd Greenberg, it is understood the NSW Organised Crime Squad has gathered evidence suggesting secret salary top-up payments have been made to players from several clubs. The information has emerged during an investigation into match fixing allegations.

An NRL insider told Fairfax Media detectives have not found evidence of an organised conspiracy involving players deliberately losing games. But detectives have information about intelligence being leaked by club insiders to punters, and, hidden player payments that may breach salary cap rules. "It is systemic," said one witness who has been interviewed by police about his own role making undisclosed player payments at several clubs.

Another businessman who has been interviewed by police told Fairfax Media on Wednesday morning that secret salary top-up payments were happening "at every club." When asked whether he had ever made any undisclosed payments to a Manly player, he responded: "You write it. I've got no comment to make."

Manly said they are not aware of allegations of salary cap breaches, and that they have recently had their 2017 mid-year salary cap audit "completed by the NRL in record time and without adjustment".

It surprises me now that you mentioned it, that some of the players at these clubs have the stamina to play football at all. Especially now that you have highlighted that they are Rooters!!!!

Thanks for the insight bp.

"Another businessman who has been interviewed by police told Fairfax Media on Wednesday morning that secret salary top-up payments were happening "at every club. Actually the word "every" should be changed to "most" otherwise this is no secret to NRL followers except of course fans and management of Roosters, Manly, Bulldogs and Parra whose stock reply is "we know nothing". what a farce NRL has become due to the CAP rules not being applied. Who said it was a level playing field?
