THE bitter fallout between Tim Sheens and the Wests Tigers is about to get serious with the sacked head coach ready to launch legal action to recoup up to $1 million.

There is a growing belief Storm assistant Kevin Walters will be given the position to guide the Tigers in 2013\. With Sheens' commitments with the Kangaroos now over, he will snub any offer to stay on in a "senior role" because he has no desire to help the club that's thrown him on the coaching scrap heap.

He will meet Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys this week but he has told those close to him he intends to engage his solicitors this seek a full payout of the two remaining years on his contract.

Sheens was last month stood down as head coach after the Tigers failed to reach the finals after starting the season as premiership favourites.

While Eels assistant Matt Parish was widely speculated as the man to replace him, Walters is now shaping as the man to be appointed.

Sheens maintained his stance about refusing to comment about the imbroglio when contacted yesterday. "It's my own business and I'd rather just leave it until I sort it out. And even then, I don't know if I would make a statement at all," he said.

The Tigers don't have the money to pay out Sheens' contract, with the next coach expected to be offered little more than $200,000 per season in his first year.

Sheens, 62, appears certain to be re-appointed as Kangaroos coach for the World Cup campaign later in the year.

The idea of a coach without any club commitments certainly appeals, especially with next year's seven-week World Cup in the United Kingdom looming.

"Having a full-time coach would be a consideration we would look at," ARLC game development manager Andrew Hill said. "Tim's personal situation with a club won't influence management's discussions around future appointments."

Just heard on radio that Wests Tigers are trying to negotiate to pay Sheens continually in a wage form instead of a lump sum of $1m.

Sour grapes…

What happened to "if we don't make the 8' I'll stand down"???

And reportedly has broken ties with Benji... You'd think he'd be the bigger man and admit the the best thing for Benji and the team would be for them to have a breath of freash air and hear a new voice.

How do they get away with continually writing this speculative crap?

No comments apart from go away from either party = nothing to see hear as far as I am concerned

Sheens was given a contract for another two years. He did his best but it wasn't good enough and now the Tigers want him just to pack his bags and forget about it. In my opinion this is not how we should treat a legend who has put in 10 years at the club.
I think the Tigers should be the bigger man here, save some face and move on.

Humphreys is the person who gave the contract extension to Sheens..

and Humphreys is now in charge of signing the new Coach

I hope he knows what he is doing ..

Blame the idiots (board and Humphreys) who re-signed him last year for three years.

Fully.

Have to agree, none of us would leave our employment and forgo our entitlements. The board should have known the consequences when they punted him. And I agree he should have been punted.

Interesting part for me is "stood down as Head Coach"… If the Tigers did stand him down, they are as dumb as a shovel and are accountable!

I think the biggest problem at the Tigers from the outside looking in, is there is too many things that are 'personal' and many seem to want to 'do the right thing'... Unfortunately in business, nothing is personal and the only thing you do is whats best for the business.

This may get real ugly!

I could never understand why they gave him another three years…ridiculous.

In hindsight it was a crap decision, but at the time we were travelling pretty well

I know there were plenty of people here who called it as the wrong decision at the time!

hey, here's a thought, maybe get 'if we don't make the 8 I'll step down' in writing next time

In most professional jobs you receive a redundancy package or something along those lines
I know he had a Contract but still
The tigers should pay him out a percentage but 2 years pay for no work is greedy on Tim's part

Why did Tigers management sack the coach when they knew that he still had 2 years left on his contract? In legal terms that equates to a redundancy payment of 2 years to the sacked coach. I very much doubt that the coach would be silly enough to a clause about quitting if the team did not make the top 8\. Unexpected injuries to main players and emotional circumstances each of which occurred in 2012 are not the fault of the coach but can completely put your season off track.

It would say that the responsibility for the problems which have culminated into crisis over the past weeks falls to varying degrees on the following;

1\. The Manager whose job it was to know the legal repercussions of breaking the coaches contract.
2\. The Management/Directors who came up with the idea of giving the Coach an unknown role with the West Tigers after sacking him as head coach.
3\. Former Balmain players who became involved in the coaching saga. Unfortunately, as well as a football brain, which they do have, they needed to have some legal and business acumen.
