I read the articles today it's fake news if we don't re-sign Taylor Benji Lawrence McQueen there is at least 1.6 mill available

which has mostly been spent on upgrades and new guys like AJ and BJ

It comes down to management. We signed Mbye, Reynolds, Packer, Matulino to save face for management on way overs after losing Teddy, Moses, Woods. No lessons were learned from the Humphrey’s back ended deals which crippled us. When younger players come good or bargain players ie Taupau, Addo Carr, Korobiete, Brown and others come good we have no money left to upgrade and they leave.

We got out of the mess last year because of two players. Benji and Robbie playing for peanuts and arguably better than any of the higher paid recruits.

We have to be patient and build slowly and management has to stay out of the way of Madge and Hartigan who are proving to be more astute in valuing players but also playing a longer game with youngsters.

BJ is a good example subsidised for this year but is in a 3 year deal and 28. He has talent and Madge is backing himself to get it out of him. I’d it goes wrong by the end of next year it’s only 1 year to cop. Douihei similar subsidised for two years but a solid deal 4 years and he’s young.

We all know Tigers have to pay overs but slowly that will change with a competitive team, COE and kids coming through.

Well my question is Doueghi is on $600k as per Zero tackle, is that his contract price and there is a subsidy involved with Souths?
I know he was on $500k at Souths, do we know how much we are chipping in.
$600k is overs as far as i am concerned as well but the Roosters were chasing him, he is a local Junior, is passionate about the club, but think playing out of position currently, good 5/8 prospect if performs warranted that $.

We suck and have to pay overs for any player that’s in negotiations with any team. Souths are paying 150k year one and 100k year two. He is then on full contract money last two years.

It’s not a bad deal averages out about 550k a season. He’s a 400k player but hopefully he improves and makes the salary look good. He has talent, young and a good attitude.

Thanks good information we should know in 2 years then weather he would have been worth it, still think its slightly overs based upon performances this season but we have more costly players than him on the books not performing.

IDK, but I do remember the contract negotiations dragged on because of it. Last I heard, WT wanted $300k and Souths were only willing to tip in $150k.

Looks like Souths got there way from prior post $150k this season and $100k next season the on full contract. Cheers.

Agree it’s slightly overs Douehi should be 450k but at least he’s young. Where it gets ludicrous is paying huge money for older players on the decline.

Yes we have not managed that well at least i think Madge is more frugal but suppose he has to be the $300k of cap space i assume does not take into account who we can off load or not resign for 2021.

I also wonder if whoever wrote that article is stirring the pot so we have less negotiation power when off loading players like Mybe and attracting a better signing. The person managing it with Madge is formally from the Roosters so he should know what he is doing long term, hopefully?

The article may be off but our track record is pathetic. We are offloading players, not signing anyone of note with a team that can barely make the finals at its best.

Does anyone have inside word as to what our cap position actually is. Given our history fans and members have had to endure a decade of so closed salary cap issues I’d like them to set this straight. To be honest if we are in this position again it’s disgraceful.

Cleary aside who in leadership has any footy acumen. To oversee these dumb recruitment decisions.

Mate we don’t even have an organisational chart so we can work out who is responsible.

We are one of the best run clubs however we are not good at rugby league. Off the field they are doing well.

And how do we know that?
Certainly not because of its transparency?
Simply not good at rugby league or dare I say, managing the salary cap?

Because they keep telling us how good they are. There was even graphs!!! You can't argue with graphs. We're in the top 3 for graphology in the NRL.

That’s not bad that’s why they signed JT.
They have the COE off the ground, we suck and still attract decent crowds, we have plenty of sponsors, TV viewership is high. It’s clear people know what they are doing in most areas but rugby league. Excluding Madge and Hartigan who have basically just arrived.

Yeah the PowerPoint dazzled them ?

Everything rides on Madge and Hartigan, I just fear they'll quit or be prematurely sacked.

Maybe Harry Triguboff can use these for third party agreements incentives, or as a bet on a round of golf.

I know they're all estimates, but Id be a bit worried as a Dogs fan that my top four highly paid players are all forwards, and the fifth highest paid is a centre.

Sounds like out of a Blackadder episode, where there are two groups of people, one group who thinks spines are important in a footy team, and the other who think they aren't.

Is the cap a joke in the case of the Dogs or have they just recruited well? If we can argue that the NRL need to do a better job of auditing clubs, then yes, the cap is a joke. Otherwise it is the exact same in every other code around the world.

They'll shed players and it'll all be crimson and clover.

Cotric is already out the door I'd say...
More to follow.

Their 2023 is looking very good.
