Three weeks after welcoming their second child, South Sydney superstar Sam Burgess and wife Phoebe are understood to have split, three years after their lavish Bowral wedding.
It is understood the Rabbitohs player, 29, ended the couple's five-year relationship shortly before Christmas with Phoebe and the couple's two children absent from the Burgess family's Christmas festivities held at Watsons Bay Hotel.
The former journalist gave birth to their second child William "Billy" Mark Burgess on December 9, announcing the news via Instagram.
"Welcome to our world little big man, our hearts are so full," she wrote with the hashtag #FamilyofFour and a photo of the pair and their new son. The couple are also parents to Poppy Alice, who was born in 2017.

The shock split came just three months after the Englishman and other Souths players were allegedly embroiled in a sexting scandal with a 23-year-old who claimed she felt “disgusted and violated” by messages she received from the star forward's Facebook account.
Despite making a complaint to the Rabbitohs, the young woman claimed her allegations were not taken seriously and fell on deaf ears.
The club announced it had cleared its players, including Burgess, of misconduct.

A source confirmed Phoebe, also 29, is currently holed-up in the couple's $3.8 million eastern suburbs home with her mother Sarah Hooke, pregnant sister Jemima Fairbanks and Jemima's husband Gene.
“Phoebe isn't leaving the house anytime soon – she’s inside weathering the storm,” an insider said.
Burgess on Thursday was seen arriving at the property in his Bentley before leaving a short time later carrying full overnight bags and sans wedding ring
