Saturday arvo footy

I very rarely agree with Gus about much, but one thing he talked about yesterday which i thought he was on the money about was the need for more afternoon footy. I think its rediculous that we have 6 night time games a week. I'd like to see 4 each. One thing i've realy missed the last few yrs is that there hasn't been any Saturday arvo footy. I'd happily see MNF scrapped and Friday night reverting back to 1 game to see 2 games on a Saturday arvo. I know people will say that Saturday arvo would be hard as people have other commitments on a Saturday, but the AFL doesn't have any trouble attracting crowds on a Saturday afternoon so theres no reason why we shouldn't either

I'd rather a live game on Friday night and another on Saturday than a live game on Friday followed by a delayed one. Or even Thursday/Friday like last week, I really hate watching delayed gamed on Nine. It's 80mins of footy with 40mins of advertisements.

I would go:

Thursday
7.30pm

Friday
7.30pm

Saturday
3.30pm
5.30pm
7.30pm

Sunday
2pm
4pm (LIVE)

Monday
7pm

If they don't want a Thursday night game which I read they do, then make it Sunday at midday.

Id like to see

Friday
7:30

Saturday
2 games at 3 o'clock (viewers choice or 1 on fox and one on 9)
2 games 7:30

Sunday
2 o'clock and 3 o'clock game

MNF
7 o'clock

Friday
2 x 7:30

Saturday
1 x 5:30
2 x 7:30

Sunday
1 x 2:00 live on Fox
1 x 4:00 live on 9
1 x 6:00 live on Fox

Well they generally do the 2 games on Friday night, so those of us in NSW get that game live and the Queenslanders get their game live. I don't mind seeing the next game delayed, I usually tape it anyway and watch it the next day.

I do miss Saturday arvo games though. Be interesting to see, if by some miracle channel 10 gets the rights and actually shows the 8 games they want to show on free to air.

Didn't they stop the 3.30 game because to many people complained about not being able to go because of sport on Saturday for kids?

Yes that's the way I recall it as well, plus people had other commitments like the races etc.

friday night 2 x 7.30 pm viewers choice
saturday 1 x 3 pm 1 x 5.30 pm 1 x 7.30 pm all live
sunday 1 x 2.30 pm 1 x 4.30 pm all live
monday 1 x 7.30 pm live

I just think thats an excuse. If AFL can attract 50 thousand plus on Saturday afternoons, why can't we attract decent crowds?

I'm not a fan of Thursday Footy due to the argument of turnaround being too tight. I'd go:

Friday - 6:30pm & 8:30pm
Saturday - 5:30pm & 7:30pm
Sunday - 2:00pm; 4:00pm & 6:00pm
Monday - 7:00pm

I agree, there has to be 2 friday night games. 1 Live in QLD 1 Live in NSW. Perhaps they could do what they did with the cricket and televise one on gem or go or whatever it is.

Even just move the second 7.30 game on a saturday to 3.30 on a saturday afternoon. I'd love to see MNF moved to a Sunday Afternoon, but it rates its tits off on Fox, there's no way they'd scrap it anytime soon.
