its really friggin sad fellas. Especially older generation and non English speakers.
my mum (English isnt her first language) got scammed $12,000 from carsales. Some dude said he was stationed in Tasmania and made some story up about working for ADF was going to sell her a Toyota which never eventuated. I called the bank to get the money back but it was too late.
It was too late when i found out. You know shes in her late 60s and her generation was very frugal with her money. Saved everything. Never ate at restaurants etc.
Last year she fell for a romance scam, dude said he worked for the UN and was stationed in Kabul. Mum is single and i think a little lonely, especially now im in canberra. I know the scam was from Nigeria as well so i told her what would happen. Something would happen in his personal life and he would need money for you to bail him out- some emergency.
He swept her off her feet. I told her it was a scam but she didnt believe me! I told her i do a lot of work with the UN as part of my work with the Federal Govt but she still didnt believe me. Luckily she didnt give the guy money. I read ABC news last week a lady got scammed a million dollars or something?
All jokes aside it is very concerning how much of it is going around,
