Score Updates?

Thanks to all the guys taking time from watching to post the updates.
Look forward to some game and player reviews to come!

Crowd attendance for our trial higher than for any A League match all year barring the NYE clash

some eels fans appear to be filthy that they let Humble go. Sounds like he was doing a decent job at 5/8 with Banji off for a lot of the 2nd half?

I know its only a trial and almost nothing is expected this year from the Eels,

But it sure is good to start the year with a win and no major injuries.

Thanks again for all the updates …3 games with no losses .
The really good news is that we have depth this year with a lot jockeying for positions in the starting 17

Wests Tigers won the inaugural Sean Burns Memorial Shield in beating Parramatta Eels 20-12 in an NRL trial match tonight at Bluetongue Stadium.

In front of a crowd of 13, 622, Wests Tigers led from the start with Head Coach Tim Sheens playing his strongest side in the first half. The Sean Burns Memorial Shield is named in honour of the former Strength and Conditioning Coach who worked at both clubs.

Missing Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence, Lote Tuqiri and Mitch Brown through injury, Wests Tigers led 20-6 at half-time with five-eighth Benji Marshall and half-back Tim Moltzen sparking the attack after a solid platform was laid by the hard working forward pack.

New forward Adam Blair was solid in his first appearance for Wests Tigers while promising young full-back James Tedesco did some good things after a nervous start.

Wests Tigers opened the scoring in the 12th minute through a superb cut out pass by Marshall to send winger Matt Utai over in the left corner for a 4-0 lead. Marshall converted his own try for a 6-0 lead.

A crossfield kick by new Eels half-back Chris Sandow saw centre Esi Tonga outleap half-back Tim Moltzen for the ball to score near the posts. Winger Luke Burt converted the try for a 6-all scoreline after 24 minutes.

Three minutes later, Wests Tigers second-rower Gareth Ellis busted the Eels defence open to send centre Blake Ayshford over next to the posts. The try came on the back of a 20 metre restart after the Eels knocked the ball on in-goal.
Marshall converted the try for a 12-6 lead after 28 minutes.

A nice cut out pass by Moltzen saw Ayshford head for the right corner post before turning the ball back inside for winger Beau Ryan to score in the 28th minute for a 16-6 lead. Marshall's attempt hit the right upright.

Utai grabbed his second try in the 39th minute when he crashed his way over in the corner after some smart work by Marshall and Moltzen. Marshall's attempt again hit the post to leave Wests Tigers leading 20-6 at half-time.

2nd Half
Wests Tigers lock Liam Fulton left the field five minutes after half-time after copping an accidental boot just below his left eye. He did not return after getting stitches.

Moltzen showed his pace when he ran down Sandow down to within 10 metres of the tryline.

With Wests Tigers leading 20-6 with 20 minutes remaining, Sheens rested Marshall, Ellis, Keith Galloway, Adam Blair, Aaron Woods, Ryan, Ayshford and Adam Blair to give the likes of Matt Bell, Ben Murdoch Masila, John Grant, Jacob Miller, Nathan Waters, Tom Humble, Dane Chisholm and Tim Simona game time.

The intensity of the game then dropped off. Chisholm was all but home for a try in the 78th minute after racing 50 metres only to lose the ball over the line in attempting to score.

The Eels then scored a minute later through replacement U20s centre Vai Toutai. Joseph Paulo converted the try from out wide for the 20-12 scoreline at full-time.
