Benji Marshall and Robert Lui have been called into the Wests Tigers team to play fellow NRL side Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in a Charity Cricket Challenge Match at Manly Oval on Friday, January 28.

Marshall and Lui replace Bryce Gibbs and Chris Heighington for the Twenty20 Cricket Challenge match. All proceeds raised will go to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal following the recent floods in Queensland.

The match starts at 4pm and runs until 7pm. The alcohol free event has been organised by Manly Council, Manly Sea Eagles and Manly Warringah District Cricket Club.

Wests Tigers will be led by Captain Robbie Farah with Gareth Ellis the coach. Marshall was a co-coach but has now stepped in to play.

Both teams will field two celebrities each with Wests Tigers recruiting television personality Matthew Johns and NSW Blues wicket-keeper Daniel Smith.

The teams will be made up of 12 players who will each get a bat. Both sides will wear colourful uniforms for the match.

Wests Tigers supporters are encouraged to bring their flags and wear their team colours to show support for the players.

Manly Oval is located on the corner of Sydney Road and Belgrave Street, Manly. Parking is limited at Manly Oval but parking stations are located within a short walk of the ground.

A canteen and barbecue will be operating throughout the match. Entry is via a $10 donation for adults and free for children.

hmmm dont know if i'll go. its a bit of a trek from leumeah. those of you that are going by public transport you can catch the ferry to manly wharf from circular quay. its only a short walk to the oval from manly wharf.

Still trying to decide whether to make the trip over to Manly today!

The big question - is it going to rain?

Would hate to drive all the way over there and then have to drive all the way back for nothing!

Hi everyone

Mrs T - just go… I will see you there. If it rains, well, I would have had a nice ferry trips and a nice lunch...

Okay, the sun's out (just), see you there!

I was going to go but my new media centre and speakers arrived today via courier. So that wins

A great fun evening, everyone had a great laugh, except for the kid who fell over fence & broke his arm but the game was played in the spirit it was intended. Players as always great for a chat and a picture. Particular thanks and mentions to Jake Mullany & Mark Flanagan who gave their hats to my daughters and big Thankyou to Jared Farlow who gave my son his medal.

Yes Manly cheated but hey charity only goes so far

They had their import batsman come in at 1st drop, he hit a very quick 50 then retired. With not long to go they needed about 9 or so runs, so a Manly player retired & the import batsman came back on to win them the game. Tigers import came in at about 8 or something, giving the tigers players more of a show. But it wasn't important who won, no 2 points hey.

Players were supposed to retire at 50runs. They let him stay at the crease longer to belt a few more boundaries. Charity raiser or not. They still cheated…

I wonder how Faffy coped at Wanda sand hills today at training..
One of your best Sheensy!

Guys,

remember it was played at MANLY OVAL.

So in the eyes of the fans, the good guys won - making people happier, and probably scoring a few extra donations in the process.

All for charity guys, who cares if they cheated a bit? You think the Globetrotters didn't bend the rules occasionally against the generals all for the sake of a good show… :stuck_out_tongue:
