Season 2017.

With all the talk about our salary cap problems being over by season 2017, I was wondering what players that people on this forum would like to see at the club.

A large number of our current players are only on contract for 2016\. By not renewing some players this would free up even more money.

Which players should we keep and which players not?

We could afford say 3 top notch players, or maybe 2 elite players. Who would you like to see at our club?

Who would be good for our young players?

The diversity of ideas should be interesting..

Good question Col , seeing that Lawrence will also be off contract and probably released much more money will be available

Two back rowers and a centre

The Roosters (forgive the spelling ) Taukiehafo and Brisbane 's Matt Gillett /Corey Oates all big ,mobile , can play big minutes and can create havoc on the edges

Centre is a tough one Jack Reed would sure up an edge defensively and probably be picked up at a reasonable price

The blokes from St George could be a good pick ups either Josh Dugan to play centre or Euan Aitken

I'll wait till after we win the comp in 2016 to see who we retain…

But will add SBW and Izzy if it was up to me...

If there is one lesson that Wests Tigers should have learnt over the past tumultuous seasons it is - Do not sign players to expensive long term contracts.

If by 2017 the club is to sign experienced star or very promising players their contracts must be limited to a 2 or at the very most 3 year contract. The club does not need in any way to go through the Farah, Benji and Lawrence expensive long term contract experiences again. The jury is still out as to whether the club has done the right thing by signing the inexperienced Brooks and Moses to expensive long term contracts.

Most players want a minimum 3 years Newtown

Just for interest, what were the length of terms of the contracts last signed with Farah, Marshall and Lawrence?

Rowdy was definitely 5 , not sure about Farah and Benji

Length isn't too much of an issue , how much is and definitely no back ending of deals

Find some bloody good TPA's for them

the spine, sirro and woods (the big 6) and the pasty face are all here till 2017.

i highly doubt we're gonna see any big names signed even for 2017.

I think we'll make a big splash in the player market. We'll chuck an Easts and make a huge play to try and pick up a premiership quickly.

my bad, i think teddy's contract is up 2016\. lol we still haven't had an announcement about his re-signing since the canberra deal

Who cares about contracts these days. Farah , Tapau.

The Question for me is … if 2016 is much like 2015\. who would wanna come to the WTs.

JWH, Matt Scott, Matai…all can be very inspirational when needed

I'd like another good young starting prop to partner woodsy. Would love big Klemmer or Dylan Napa. A quality right centre to partner Simona don't care who as long as they are good and would love a few impact forwards for the bench like that Takiaho. If we don't resign Lawrence would need a 2nd rower as would imagine this will be Halataus final year as well

Of those off contract at the end of next year, I'd take Sam Moa, Matt Gillett and Michael Jennings. A genuine crack at Klemmer and Papalii would be icing on the cake. Doubt we'll get any of them, but we can dream I guess.

I am not interested in length of contract, I would like the names of players that we feel could be of value to our team.

SBW would be one elite player.

There is also a prop playing for England named Hill who I think could be handy. Graham from Canterbury and Lyon from Manly would be invaluable.

My two cents worth.

I just hope that if we do have some money spend, we do it very wisely. The contracts put in place at the end of 16 and into 17 will have a huge impact on the club for the next 5-10 years. An opportunity to maybe become a competitive team rather that a consistent bottom 3 or 4.

The first test is to sign Cherrington to a new contract.

5 years for Ted and Cherrington

I agree with your sentiment Milky but Cherrington has every reason to baulk at signing a new contract with Ballin's arrival imminent.
