Sheens on 2UE @ 2/10/12 7pm

hahahaha, OK, fair enough. My one attempt to defend sheens and I was way off the mark. Apparently he was happy to talk about the tigers on MMM instead today:

Sacked Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens has opened up on Triple M's The Rush Hour on some of the reasons behind why he is no longer coach of the club.

Sheens admitted that looking to the future of the club may have played a part in him falling out of favour, particularly in light of Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington heading to Cronulla Sharks.

"Obviously players get to a time when they may still have a little bit in the tank and are still valued by some clubs and not others. So it does depend on your roster and what's coming through, what you need to strengthen your roster and the salary cap mark which bites very badly these days," Sheens told Triple M.

"It's not like the old days when you could have a Test player playing second grade .. you just can't do that anymore so there's a fair bit to add up."

On the subject of Benji Marshall being so outspoken about Ryan and Heighington departing Tigers, Sheens drew a link with everyone thinking they have a right to say whatever they like these days.

"With social media, everyone's got a voice these days," Sheens said. "The average punter can have his say. You only have to read some of the different forums to understand that so I think generally public today think they have a right to say something, and possibly everyone does, that's not an issue."

"But it's management running the place and taking control. That's really what it has to be. Whereas you do listen to your people I think strong management is needed in any organisation."

he is winning me over more and more after he has left … he makes a lot of sense..

Thats a nothing BS interview….as usual downplaying everything, a bit more to it than just ''looking to the future'', Tim

Like when he was criticising fans who criticised him.....he twisted it into fans criticising his players....absolving himself of fault

Same thing here

Minimising it all.

I know its an audio interview transferred to text which never really augurs well....anyway....

you didnt comment on this bit Ink? Doesnt fit your agenda?

A coach fronts the media for his team because that's his job. If Sheens is no longer the Wests Tigers coach then I don't see why he would take questions relating to the club unless he feels like it.

Is anyone else surprised that Sheens was the one responsible for moving Ryan and Heigingnton on? I thought that would be a management position, so what role has sheens had at the club prior to be sacked? Seems like he's more of a GM/coach figure.

Also, moving those two players on was a good move for the team, so that now makes me less confident about the management of the club considering that they are sacking a coach for making a hard (but right) call.

I think change is a good thing after the disappointing season but I'm also not sure that we won't look back on the sheens era nostalgically after next season.

Not at all Watersider Coaches live and die off their playing talent

Humphrey's would of done the deed but Sheens would of made the call Thats how it works

I've been one of sheens biggest baggers and have wanted him gone for a while. However when he released heighington it made me think he maybe should stay one more year. He seemed to be trying to move on some dead weight and breaking up the boys club mentality that we all hated.

The problem was that he had let it go for too long. Sheens is like a teacher who has let a year 5 class get away with talking in class, yelling out, drawing on desks etc and never getting anyone in trouble. Then at the start of term 4 he puts all these rules in place and wonders why none of the kids follow them.

The players turned on him cause they weren't used to him being hard on them. He only ha himself to blame.

I heard the triple M interview and he said he really didnt want to discuss his situation at the WTs because a settlement was still being discussed .

whether this means a complete payout or continuing role at the club I have nfi .

Nope…I didnt

LMAO!!!!
Sheens has run the join for years....what planet you been on?
They finally pulled their fingers out, wake up call for Tim

Believe it or not, everyone has an agenda of some sort :unamused:

Fans have always opinionated, passionate and vocal… Its just that social media makes it public and everyone can hear and see your point of view.. Back in the old days it didn't get past a scream from the grandstand

Meh… let sleeping dogs lie. Wayne Bennett doesn't say much about anything as well. Phil Gould talks his head off and everyone tells him to shut up. Unless your winning everyone is gonna pull you up for what you say or dont say. He's gonna do whats in his best interests and you cant expect anything less.

He's gone. He's gonna say a few things but at the end of the day... Sheens did alright. He's a good coach, but not a great one. With him it was too much... 'jam yesterday, Jam tomorrow, no jam today' My main gripe is that we never topped the table with him in charge. We never looked a dominant team. Couldn't handle anything except the leeway you get from being plucky underdogs. Gambled too much by tinkering with the squad and falling out with the senior players. Now he's paid the price.

Thankyou.. next!

I found this comment fascinating. Was he talking about Blair? Does this explain why the top 17 were rarely dropped?

Thanks ST ..I read the comment too and meant to ask everyone what they think he meant. The thought I did have was that there was mention in another thread about by promoting Bret or Wests players it triggered bonuses that were then included in the salary cap
