Sheens poised to hand ageing Anasta challenge and a half Re

Anyone who thinks this is going to work is kidding themselves. Consider:

- Anasta has never played halfback in his entire career. He is a five eigth, lock and second rower. Never a halfback.
- Not one coach in his entire career has ever thought Anasta could play half.
- He is old and slow. And Sheens is asking to him to play a new position at the end of his career
- Sheens has tried to make halves of several players (John Morris etc) - he has failed every single time
- Benji is a five eight. So is Anasta. So is Sironen. What we need is a halfback. It's a different position requiring different skills.

The best position for Anasta for us is lock. He can then involve himself in the playmaking duties as well as provide the cooler experienced head some are talking about.

Sheens is an idiot. He needs to be sacked immediately. Otherwise, we are going to waste another season while he tries to make a player into something he is not.

I repeat. We need Anasta's wisdom not his body. But OZ, maybe you will get your way & It won't be the end of the world if Anasta does end up at lock. Personally I don't care if Anasta plays hooker or wing, I just want his wisdom.

Absolutely :righton:

All the goods sides have no7s who actually run the ball,Anasta did not run the ball at no6 so its highly unlikely he will run the ball at no7 especially with old slow legs

I reckon its a great idea.

no-one mocked Kimmorley at Halfback really ever, and Noddy was one of the Slowest players going around the park.

Anasta has the added bonus of being able to tackle as well.

Lets see how it plays out before we death ride it.

Brett Kimmorley slow.HAHAHAHA

He was one of the quickest halfbacks both in speed of foot and speed of mind.Anasta is THE slowest hb of 2013 guaranteed. All he will bring and quite important all the same is a kicking game.

When you have the best running 6 in the world you hardly need your 7 running to much

Wrong

Relax! Only skimmed the first page so far but I'm sure Marshall will be at 7, he's been playing a lot of halfback with the number 6 jersey and Anasta will play 5/8th. I'd prefer Anasta to play lock but isn't there something in his deal about playing in the halves?

So I'm not sure where that leaves Sironen who looked quite good.

I think Anasta will make a positive contribution but how can Sheens, after 40+ years of experience in the game, still believe a half-back can be manufactured?

Half-back is a specialised position.

Not sure if this will work out because I think young Sirro will work his way back into FG next season, and I don't think he'll be ready for the backrow just yet.

Benji is definitely more dangerous at 6 than at 7, which saw his running game almost disappear, but will Sheens shift Benji back to 7 when young Sirro is match fit? Not sure how that will play out because I can't see Sirro playing 7\. If Miller stays, then he'll be good for depth in the halves, but the most important thing for next year is to try and stick to the same halves pairing as best as possible.

Haven't got to your options yet but do Miller & Sironen play in the same lower grade team - could potentially start with them or have a trial or two with them as the halves if they do.

Sirro could play right centre,I think a couple of years there before heading to the forwards would work, who knows he may star there and stay at centre.

That's what I was thinking but then the question is over Ayshford and Lawrence - that said I haven't seen much from Lawrence at all in recent times and our centres are often used as makeshift five-eighths.

Really won't make a difference. We're screwed next yr either way

If we're thinking that than we're in for a good next year because it will be above expectations

This is the key brain over Braun it's all about percentages and what each individual player brings to the table. When you have such a creative 5/8 and 9 what you need is a 1/2 with vision and short kicking game.Guys forget about traditional 1/2 back for this team,I really don't think Anasta will be at 1/2 anyway we are talking Sheens here but if he does just might be a good combo.

Dunno why we needed a top line, top dollar player if what is required isnt so important, is being downplayed a lot here.

I hoep whatever he does works, but were all atm just having a wild stab in the dark

i cant see a better option an also its just a number on a jersey cant they be interchangable between 6 and 7 even say young sirro plays lock or off the bench he could also chime in.

not the worst option think about marshall, anasta and farah as attacking options for kicking and running who are the defence drawn to? without farah in the last few games how easily was benji closed down and therefore he took silly options that my 2 cents worth

Wrong

Wanna back that up with some reasoning?

The idea is Marshall and Farah run the creativity, and Anasta steady's the ship with a solid defensive, kicking and passing game. Then offer good support up the middle. And since when is a bad ball runner anyway? He was a bull runner at the dogs and if the other option is putting him in the backrow then he needs to have some attack doesn't he?

Moltzen can do what youre describing
So too Humble

At the start of the year, Sheens was banging on to anyone who'd listen, that he had the fastest halves combo in the comp in Marshall/Moltzen…......now it doesnt matter anymore. Funny that.

We shall see if what 'the herald understands' and the 'source that told them' are accurate at all

But, all good teams have good halves that can run, and floor it in an instant when they see something on

Anasta has a far better kicking game than both, and most importantly the experience and respect to over rule Benji on the field.

I have confidence that Anasta will be able to take advantage of the opportunities that present for him
