I wouldn't count Hodgo as a recruit, as much as we just brought him back where he belonged. It was absolute ineptitude on behalf of WT management that they let him go. He was the biggest star out of both the Wests and Balmain teams. Maybe not a star at the time but he definitely had the most potential. History just about proves that as a fact

Absolutely, one of the top five mistakes made by the WT's in our history was letting him go when he still had a lot to offer.

He is talking about when we merged, not when Hodgo left for the ESL,when we merged Pearce had his fullback in Joel Caine,if it was a Wests coach first off he would not have left.

If Tommy had of still been coach Hodgson would of still left

He was told he wasn't wanted by Wests or the Wests Tigers

In hindsight a terrible decision, at the time tho, I was hardly kicking up a stink.

As for not counting him in the recruitment, of course he counts.

That is not right,Wests couldn't match Parra's offer, but the WestsTigers could.

That's not what Hodgo thought ( and I'm sick of having this argument with people )

Seeing he was the player involved I'm guessing he would know

It is reasonably well know that Hodgo was not wanted at the time, when he developed into the player he became, the story has somewhat changed.

Given we had a enormous salary cap in the JV year, if we wanted him, we would had of got him.

IIRC Happy, you heard the chain of events directly from Hodgo himself. That is more than good enough for me.

Hodgo was always quality. He just stood out more in a better side. As for saying he developed into a better player after he left, ask any Magpies supporter at the time of the merger, theyll tell you the guy always had it. We had no money, now that's the first time I heard that reason , remember we blew the $8 million straight up.

I was more referring to profile, as a Balmain fan I was aware of Hodgson and thought he was a good player (but obviously did not watch as closely as the Magpie fans) when we merged the fact that Hodgo was not in the squad did not enter my mind. A couple years later it seemed like a ridiculous decision (which the maggie fans prob already knew) and I couldn't believe we did not keep him, at this time the club started moving away from the he was not in our plans, to he opted to go elsewhere.

Fact: Weststigers offered Hodgo more money than Parra.
Fact: Due to heavy recruitment at the time, and in particular Matt Sears, Hodgos saw more opportunities at Parra.
Go Weststigers!

Hodgo decided to go to Parra before it even became clear the JV would happen…...thats been my take on it.
He had a iron clad deal with them, didnt know what was happening with us....we farted around....nothings changed much

Yes thats correct This isn't trying to sound like a big note but Hodgo's niece and my wife's nephew dated for a fair few years

He was in Gladstone for his nieces 18th and unfortunately I pulled a double shift that night , but that was the story he told my Father in Law in regards to the Wests /Tigers /Parra

Meet and spoke with him a few times after that occasion . He was nice enough to tell his niece to pass a message to myself on that he was coming back to the Tigers about 6 weeks before the decision came out

Inks on the money with Hodgo.
and Luke Odonnell wasnt rated by Sheens ,Hence a really poor offer which forced him out of the club.
Sheens is a top coach ,he just satayed here TOO long .

Yeh LODs discipline early on wasnt too crash hot

God never have I seen a tough guy carry on as much as him.

Only Liam remains of the "Wishbone Three"
