Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

But this definitely raises some questions about his personality

No doubt. Let's see if he can learn from it. I think the likes of Andrew Johns and most of the media pushing against what he was doing has a big influence. In the past the Journos would nearly put it all on us and claim we are negligent for not letting him go. So I reckon he was shocked at how much support the club got and backed down.

Very happy many greats of the game and journos started to turn on Galvin's decision.

I think you might find that the Bulldogs just didn’t let players go.. they signed quite a number as well…
The key detail missing in the bulldogs revival is they moved on on contract players who were still in demand. (Was a plausible option with teams like us still performing worse than they were) in comparison our players are looking at England as no other clubs are interested (other then the Papali deal.)
But also in adjacent to that they let the players off contract leave without a new one.
Looking back in our recent retention movements there are quite a few notable resignings that were questionable at the time with no one beating down the door to take them on.

Ok…

on a side note ,.. the Tigers have three spaces available now on their Top 30… any chance of filling some of those spots with external players ?

At least there is an opportunity to play a season with JL … see if that will lead to a possible change of mindset …..

otherwise he is free to sign elsewhere 1 Nov 2025
Good chance he will find a new home come Nov 2025 and push for an early release. Although 12 months anything can happen and he will have a dig as he needs to show case his talents . I wonder if we gave him a sweetner

I have only seen a little of Laulilii but he grabbed my attention straight away. I think he will be our version of the Sharks Katoa. Powerful runner with footwork.
Yeh mate, he's a mini To'o; smaller, but with better ball skills. Can cover fullback and I wouldn't be surprised if centre was an option either.

He was hitting blokes hard in NSW Cup as a 17-year old winger (18 this week).....

He is playing on a $150k this year apparently …probably deserves something extra the rest of this season…

Apparently gets upped next year to around $250m - $300k …

This is the way I would do it go out and recruit externally for next season but for this season promote a few juniors on the cusp that haven’t got top contracts yet or even some of the boys on dev that are going to move to top 30 next year.
Use the rest of this season to see what the juniors and depth is made of. But the 3 players you sign have to be top shelf. Guys you want in your side each week.

That's an interesting one.

They DO need to fill them and it's pretty well known that our squad is already too full with kids, so I think internal promotions would be unlikely, particularly given that T and T's and dev can both play now. The only way we don't fill externally imo, is if we use a spot or two to lock down a couple of the alternative pathways players not already earmarked for upcoming dev deals, the likes of Broederlow, Tofaeono and Johannssen.

Richo saves the day with Galvin, at least for the moment.

It would have been far worse if after the meeting the youngster had doubled down on his release requests.

It’s a face saver anyway.

The article advising that he "recommitted" to WTs is a word thrown about in the NRL too freely. He is already committed via his contract.

Big if....

And I still wouldn't be hopeful.
He's really put himself on the map, in a bad way.
Yeah I agree Demps but I think Richos thinking once Luai comes and we become more competitive he will settle. The problem for me is Richo and Betsy had the meeting on Wednesday with the family and the kid wasn't even there. Like wtf you want to play N.R.L harden up a bit and grow up and take some responsibility. I get he's only 18 but that's my biggest concern his parents in his ears atm. He's just naive I guess
