Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This thread is so similar to the rumour mill in the EPL .....I read Shaqiri coming from Liverpool but until I see a presso with him in ready made Irons shirt its just the wildest dreams

Ok players like Matterson are a massive step in the right direction ...but hey they've been few and far between since 2009-2011

Someone on the league unlimited is saying Dufty is on his way to Concord. Take this with a truck load of salt.

It would be great if true. Maybe also bring Jai Field and Jason Saab with him.

Cool and who of those 3 is going to do any tackling?
I've heard the same rubbish about JAC and Korobeite from various supporters. The thing about it is you can coach tackling technique but pace not so much?

You can teach tackling technique but you can't necessarily turn someone into a decent defender. Thurston worked hard on his game but was a rubbish defender in the line from start to finish...I don't think any (first grade) team needs Field and Dufty both. If we were shopping at that end of the market I'd prefer Drinkwater to either anyway.

JT wasn't the greatest defender but he put his butt on the line every time he took the field and went into every tackle with 100 % intent

Yes that was kind of my point - despite his efforts he spent a lot of time being a pinball because of his size.

No doubt with our record of recruitment, we would have turned JT down despite being one of the greatest halves/players of all time,

I recall one of our own greats not being one of the greatest defenders of all time but sill is regarded as a very good player.

We did .....I thought everyone knew ......Tigers sent Tommy to look at Thurston and he said JT was too small

This comes from the exact same bloke who pushed Allan Langers wheelbarrow every second day to Qld selectors once Mark Murray got that career ending eye injury while on the piss with Greg Conescu

I guess nothing surprises when it comes to our past recruitment and lack of pace. If JT was considered too small, JAC had no chance. I remember the he is not tough or big enough to run the ball back. He seems to run it okay at the Storm. We kept Nofoaluma when it was Korobeite we should have made the big effort to keep. I remember watching the game as Shark Park years ago with both wingers in our side. Korobeite was unstoppable and Nofoaluma was in space with the opportunity to win the game but got tackled over the touchline by Fifita. Good call.

Looking forward to seeing Wolverhampton complete the signings of the remainder of the Portuguese national team for the up coming season.

No thanks!. We’ve got enough vertically challenged outside backs in our team.

Groat instead of Fifita

That ranks up there

Drums beating louder for fan favourite
Josh Reynolds is one of the most loved players in the game, but his future at Wests Tigers could be in jeopardy. The talk is growing louder that the Tigers would let him go if there is a suitable offer from another club.
Reynolds has been hampered by injury since he arrived at the Tigers and has had to deal with tragedy in his personal life in recent times.
On the face of it, the Tigers have not got value for money. Reynolds joined the club last season on a four-year deal worth about $750,000 a year after he was forced out of the Bulldogs, but has only run out nine times for the joint venture.
This news would not be a surprise to Reynolds, who is said to be nervous about his place at the club. The key would be finding another team to take him on.
Player agents are talking about Reynolds being traded out of the Tigers, but when I spoke to his manager, George Mimis, he said he had not heard from the club.
The rumour has been around for the past few weeks. but is certainly gathering steam.

Packer a caged Tiger
Russell Packer was once a club captain at the Tigers. Now he can’t crack it for a start in the top grade.
I’ve asked why and been told that his body is not what it should be. But, digging further, the word is he does not get along with coach Michael Maguire. Packer has some strong opinions and they are not always appreciated by his coach. It will be a surprise if Packer sees out his rich contract, a four-year deal due to end in 2021.

Problem is its a big If for either of then. Until Reynolds can stay on the field for a regular stint and till Packer can show fitness and form then we cabt find someone to take them althpigh moreso Reynolds then Packer

Could be another case like Greg Eastwood - two highly paid players playing it out in reserves.
Cant see where either Reynolds or Packer make the team, yet they are being paid significantly more than just about every other player bar Brooks.
No wonder Kelly Egan was let go. We know why it happened but it doesnt excuse the fact that valuable cap space is wasted on two underperfoming players that have massive fitness/injury issues.

Reynolds form is not in question, it’s his ability to stay healthy, on form he is in the side
