Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It's amazing and a good sign in the near term that WT have managed to land so many decent signings yet we still have a lot of coin going to dead wood that the club will sooner rather than later manage to offload giving the club a decent war chest to get three or more gun signings under their belt during 2025-26.
Have to do it before the new team comes in 2027/2028

Wests Tigers allow fast-food lover Galvin to feast out

Lachlan Galvin admits he knows the drive-thru attendants at McDonalds better than Wests Tigers' star recruit Jarome Luai.
But it's all good with the NRL club, who has given the five-eighth their blessings to eat anything he likes this pre-season.

The NRL's breakout star of 2024, 19-year-old Galvin is busy hatching a plan to avoid second-year syndrome as he awaits the arrival of his halves partner to pre-season training in the new year.

So far, that plan has not involved consulting with four-time premiership-winner Luai, whose highly anticipated arrival at the Tigers was delayed by Samoa's tour of England.

"I haven't spoken to him at all yet," Galvin said of Luai, who is tipped to help reverse the Tigers' fortunes after three consecutive wooden spoons.

"I think he's going to come back a little bit before Christmas and in the new year he'll start training again.

"We know how good of a player he is, he'll take so much pressure off me. He'll run the team, do what he needs to do and I'll just play off the back of that. Whatever he wants, I'll do."

In the meantime, Galvin has set himself a goal to improve his fitness and has already shaved three seconds off his 1.2km time trial, which he now runs in four minutes 12 seconds.

“I'm pretty impressed with that," he said.

"I think if you work hard, good things happen on the back of that.

"(Second-year syndrome) is why I've come back fitter this year ... I don't want to worry about that second-year syndrome."

Packing on size is also a top priority for the naturally rangy Galvin, who is no longer an unknown quantity for opposition defences and will be targeted if he remains lightweight.

Galvin has shot up two centimetres since the winter, now standing at 193cm, but putting on size in the other direction has been more difficult.

The five-eighth has only been able to put on one kilogram so far, but is hopeful the Tigers' new diet plan will change things.

"I don't eat enough. Every morning I'm in here, they tell me, 'Eat breakfast, eat lunch', they watch me eat and that. I've got to put the kilos on. I struggle with that but I'm trying my best," he said.

“The dietician Clare (Flower), she says, 'Eat what you want, Lachlan', so it's pretty good."

Galvin isn't worrying about hitting calorie targets, instead putting his faith in Ronald McDonald to guide him.

"I get a dinner box from Maccas on the way home,' he said. "That's why I love playing."

"Clare spoke something about that (calorie target) but I don't even know what that means. I didn't really listen at school that much.

"I'll just try eat as much as I can. If I come in the morning and I weigh more than I did yesterday, I'm happy."

Captain: Api or Romey? Or maybe dual captaincy?
Thought's ?
It was suggested somewhere else here Api- club captain and Luai as team captain and in some ways them being dual captains. I liked that. If we are really looking at lessening Api's time on the field to give him more of a break the captaincy role has to be sorted and cant be a fill in role for 20 minutes or so a game.

I don’t think Benji has ever had a killer instinct, as a player or coach. He’s always been very bla’se. Which really made it remarkable that he was as good as he was at his peak, and at the same time is probably why he regressed so far as a player over the second half of his career. He could get away with it as a player, but that attitude doesn’t cut it as a first grade coach. It isn’t a 9-5 job, as much as he tries to paint it as one. It’s an attitude he needs to reassess if he’s going to be a successful coach.
I thunk you are a little off the mark here. I don't think Benji has ever said it is a 9-5 job, and from what I've heard he puts the hours in. What he is big on is not working from 1700-2000 so he can spend time with kids and faimily. Then I assume he gets back into planning or tapes etc.

That is how nearly every small business owner operates as well. Finish on the tools, spend some time with the kids/family and then do some prep work for the next day before hitting the rack and then getting up earl;y while it is quiet to finish the prep for the next day.

Why would NRL players/coaches not follow a similar routine?

💯 I remember Paul gallen commented on benji saying this earlier in the year…
Said he gets it but it doesn’t need to be said. It’s implied. But the great teams and players think winning is everything.

Look at michael jordan and tom Brady - winning was everything

Is their home life not great because of it - probably … but benjis job is not being a marriage Counsellor - it’s winning football games … that’s his job. If he wants to be their friend he should be the welfare coach

look at richo - he says “I don’t want to be invited to your wedding bc we’re not friends”

Benji has the opposite mindset

I reckon Richo will give him time to prove his worth but if Benji doesn’t get results first half of this year and the team is losing respect for him - Richo will punt him
I'm not sure Benji is too matey or has the opposite mideset to Richo. It is clear that he has some hard converstations with some of the senior players and they were not happy about being put on the spot (if you can believe the media).

He has no excuses with the cattle that have been provided. It won't take too long to tell if he has got it or not.

Love it, but not sure promoting McDonalds is a great thing. It's a pretty dangerous diet for some.

Saint, Sinner, Shoosh: NRL club’s bizarre points change suggestion

An NRL club has suggested some bizarre rule changes, an ex-Tigers players heads to arbitration with club, plus the Knights’ big offer for a halfback. That and more in Saint, Sinner, Shoosh.

Brent Read and Michael Carayannis

TIGERS HEADED FOR MILLER ARBITRATION

Wests Tigers are headed for arbitration in their fight with axed prop Jordan Miller.

Miller had his contract terminated by the club and enlisted former major sponsor Lee Hagipantelis to take up the fight on his behalf.

It is understood the matter will now be determined by independent arbiters after the parties failed to find a resolution on the dispute.

Miller played a handful of first grade games in 2024 but was sacked by the Tigers after being late for a training session for the second time.

It is understood the young forward claimed there were extenuating circumstances for his tardiness.

SHOOSH

Which club from north of the border is believed to have made a subtle inquiry about an international forward at a Sydney club last week. We’re tipping his current club wouldn’t stand in the way if they followed through with an offer.

SPOTTED

Former Wests Tigers star Beau Ryan back at his old stomping ground at Concord Oval only hours after he was unveiled as the new host of Triple M’s breakfast show.

Love it, but not sure promoting McDonalds is a great thing. It's a pretty dangerous diet for some.
Met a family that went there for dinner 4 nights a week.
Just can't imagine what they envision as a good feed.
I've had it once in the last 12 years.
Wouldn't say I am the healthiest of eaters but giving that up was as good as giving up the gaffers.

Show me another coach who says it as much as Benji

It’s embarrassing

Watch the presser - at the end Benji rants about family

It’s unnecessary

It’s implied.

I think it’ll be his undoing

That or is he’d successful he’ll be a pioneer

It’s clear benji is a great human

But he’s not there to make sure players have a happy marriage when theyretire

He’s there to win football games

If he hasn't got the club will have to survive another slim winter.

To win football games, you need the best players. Maybe our recent run on signings is due to that message.

... and the bulldogs court case is the reason why they haven't signed any.

I agree there needs some balance in the message. But we'll tell over time if benji got it right.

Could be !!

Fingers crossed

I want him to succeed and be a career coach with us

I’m just worried bc of his messaging

Yeah he's finding ways not to be there. But we don't have any other option at 2nd row and he's still contracted. Even if he wants to go I say keep him next year then move him on the in 2026
You're forgetting he's a known dressing room Cancer. You don't let a tumour fester. You cut it out
