If memory serves me correctly I'm pretty sure Folkes used to flog the guys, can't remember where I read it but one of the players said they never trained harder than under Folkes, he was a fitness freak.

Yeah would LOVE to see that. I used to live at Lidcombe. During the late 70's you could hear the Wests boys giving it in the locker room at the old Youth centre at Wyatt Park (just outside Lidcombe Oval) before a game. Roy Masters was coach. Tommy, Dallas, Boyd, Cooper, they were all there. Those games against Randall, Krillich, Harvey, and Broadhurst were full on. No place for the faint hearted. Would love to see it again but...times have changed just a tad!

Like I said, nothing to lose in a trial. He himself might realise his career is at a crossroad & welcome a chance to reinvent himself. Either way, he knuckles down & demands a 1st grade spot or accepts he'll be a reserve grader.

Yeah defense was outstanding start of that season I know he stuffed us when he defected, but his defensive strategies were good.

We scrambled very well never give up mentality which I hope we can replicate this season

the whole comp was a myth that year,it was a sudo war between rl commentators on radio ,tv ,print that they agitated for a few years.THE lets police the game buy the book policy.outlaw chicken wing n grapple tackles was top of the list.Tigers rolled thru the comp the most disciplined team in the for 17 rounds ,all the while Bellamy ,Bennet thumbing their noses at the crack down ,Then just as the media was about to silence its whining and Matty Johns the main integrator started spruiking the joys of 80's style footy were the Ref /rule book is King ,Nrl backflipped,Tigers started being out wrestled ,pig dogged on the floor until opposition was well n truly set to stonewall an attaching team to not progress 5 mtrs.He was going ok that year
