Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

@Sunnycoast_tiger Yes. The Sharks side is travelling well and their fullback is the QLD U20 rep. Bennett apparently is a very good young man. Can play 5/8, wing or fullback.

@The_Patriot so many people laughed it up when others suggested that on here. We legitimately missed out on a player’s brother who couldn’t crack 1sts in the dragons luke warm backline - Steven Marsters - now people think Burgess would even wanna come here

Madge has kept our quality and looks to have targeted great young recruits and talent spotters but we never seem to compete in an open market. Thoughts, Patriot?

Ur a smart guy

It really doesn't matter if we are competitive in the open market. All that matters is that we identify talent and sign quality people.

Our depth is at is worst but I trust Maguire to fix the mess Taylor and Cleary left the club in.

It's start with recruiting kids and having options coming through the grades. The rest will fall in to place after that.

well said ..... I don't think that our squad is far off the pace .... but our depth need a definite upgrade and some fresh young talent.
I think you will see a changing of the guard at the Tigers especially in the lower grades as there appears to a big push for young talent. The Tigers have never been as active as they are currently are trying to recruit out of QLD.

(Insert reserve grader here). Good young player. We only need a couple of signings to make this team quality.
Somehow reserve graders are going to do this.
Look at our squad we need quality.
Billy Smith would be a good buy if it was the 1950s.
We need proven fgers

I thought Packer played well in CC. Watched him closely and he certainly seemed engaged.

Missed the game but Packer at his best is a decent prop in a rotation as he was at the Dragons. It’s a huge concern on such a big contract the level of performance he has dished up. Teams have a right to get value albeit he was way overpaid by Cleary.

A mate of mine said to me today Cleary bought loyalty literally. Play for me, drive my culture and I’ll give you 50% more than your value. New coach I’ll just take the money thanks reserve grade will do.

@Newtown watch yesterday probable 2 seasons from first grade if at all to be honest a bit small and was not dominate at all .. gave heaps of hospital passes where he should of played out the back . Not that impressed at this stage could come on a next season with some age and fitness.

And how do you propose we pay them?

When you lie down with dogs you are bound to get fleas.

Screw both of them.

Oh everything on this forum is a waste of time....good fun but let's be honest not exactly life changing.
What I was getting at is the unwillingness of the wests tigers to make a hard decision. We got into a salary cap problem 4 years ago that Go said would take 3 years too work though. The Bulldogs had one last year moved on some players and are now recruiting again.
We have to bite the bullet and move some players on. Maybe even one or two that we would like to keep
We have to start being proactive.

Yes I agree, problem for us is that the bulldogs saved a lot of money letting Klemmer go, for us our highest paid players are playing reserve grade and no one wants them. The other option is to release someone we have a cheaper replacement for who is already at the club, we don't have this either.

The only option would be to release Brooks, but we don't have a replacement so would have to go out and spend similar if not more to replace him.

We are really in a hard position to get out of, it is no where as simple as it was for the Bulldogs!

Last off-season Gould said the Tigers were a 5 year rebuild. We had no patience and tried to do it in an off-season. Astute low value signings has to be the way forward. Big money only for proven Origin Players.

@TYGA Let me add big money only for proven *current* Origin players. None of this, he played a game for Qld back in the Super League days, so let's put him on $750k for 4 years...

Reimis Smith is clearly unhappy at the dogs due to the lack of ball he gets. He has the potential to be the best winger in the game.

1. Moses Mbye *
2. Reimis Smith (Bulldogs)
3. Hymel Hunt (Newcaste)
4. Mawene Hiroti (Souths)
5. Kane Bradley (Canterbury Cup)

6. Brandon Wakeham (Bulldogs)
7. Luke Brooks *

8. Alex Twal *
9. Robbie Fatah (1 more year)
10. Oliver Clarke *
11. Ryan Matterson (C)
12. Chris Lawrence / MCK
13. Josh Aloiai *

14. Jacob Liddle *
15. Thomas Mikaele *
16. Renouf Toomaga (Bulldogs)
17. Kayne Kalache (Bulldogs)

This is realistic and solves a lot of our problems. Makes us a top 8 team.

We've been saying for years dogs have the cattle but never look after em so let's raid the ranks. It's worked well for us before.
