Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Completely disagree, it would screw up our cap and roster balance.

You can't have 7-8 props in a 30 man roster with the money that they are all on. Its not fantasy football. That's why its much more important to get a second rower and lock to free up Seyfarth and Twal to play prop.

If we were to get another FG quality prop (with KPP and a lock) that means that Sione, Twal and Seyfarth would all be in reserve grade. That's too much of the cap in grade. They would probably also look to leave, which puts you back to square one and having to replace them. Not to mention it would completely block the path of guys like Kit.
Well I disagree Seyfarth has been playing second row and Terrell wants to play big minutes so move him to lock, that's props down by 2 and room for my suggested impact prop.
If KPP does sign, we have more depth at 2RF with Seyfarth in reserve grade, there has also been suggestions that Sione could be tried there as well.

As for those who have to play reserve grade, we need the depth look at the top teams compared to ours and there are always injuries, look at us now with Pole, he's a big out that's hard to replace with our lack of quality.

totally different set of circumstances. in what world are the Roosters chasing Kai Pearce-Paul?

I got another for ya…paying through the nose for Dom Young and letting him go 18 months later …. They aren’t the rational decisions makers of 8 years ago it seems

I still don't understand where on earth you've pulled this theory from.

I'll ask you again, why do you think the Roosters are in the running to sign Kai Pearce-Paul? "Because they make boneheaded decisions" isn't an answer.

Aren't the Knights announcing Dom Young's return this Friday? That must have an impact on the Knight's cap after the Brown purchase especially since it will be a mid year transfer.

I’ve given you three examples of them doing bone headed things ..,they have lost their way these days … I’ll give them a pass on Brandon Smith … although certainly another recent signing that hasn’t worked out for them

I'm one who hopes we do land KPP & Taylan May, AND I also hope we can secure another 2 forwards with the following characteristics ...

1 An effort-based lock who can lead line speed, chase/cover and inspire our defence (Hetherington or Curran would be nice)

2 Another 'aggressive' prop who can pump the boys up with a big tackle or hitup and puts a bit of fear into the opposition (not a big name, just someone who adds depth in our middle in case Royce goes down)

My wishlist!

May is a top 3 prop in the game at the moment, so lets move him?

Haas plays big minutes, so I guess he should be moved to lock to. I don't know what everyones obsession is with moving players for the sake of it. The best thing for the team is keep a top 3 front rower in the front row. If we need a lock, go get a lock. One of the reasons we're having issues is because we have two props already playing out of position (Twal at lock and Seyfarth at second row).

Seyfarth has been playing second row but can fill both spots. If we end up with 7-8 first grade props on the roster of 30, it means we are going to be lacking somewhere else.

We need to upgrade our team and right now our biggest weaknesses are left centre, right backrow and lock. Once we upgrade those positions, the prop depth will fix itself as we will get two more first grade props from the two guys currently playing in other positions.

Most teams only run out with 4 props on game day, we are currently running out with 6 props (two out of position). That in itself should tell you we have more than enough props and not enough in other positions...

I've been told that WT see Latu as an out and out first grade half but not with the same ceiling as Galvin.

the pursuits of DCE and Reynolds indicate that they're trying to get a mentor in for the short-term to help him with increasing the height of said ceiling. for that reason, I don't think you'll see us pursue the likes of Metcalf and Sexton.
We are pursuing DCE?

Is this another Lomax thing

another backrower on top of Pearce-Paul to push Sukkar and arguably Seyfarth down the depth chart would help immeasurably as well. Billy Burns would be priority one in that position for mine.

I'll be criticised for this but I think Elie El-Zakhem is as good as Billy Burns and could play himself into the team by the end of the season. Arguably our best NSW Cup player the past 6 weeks since we secured him on a Cup deal, yes I know that's not saying much lol

he can't tackle unfortunately mate. Burns can.

I certainly think Latu's the more naturally talented of the two, but it's what Galvin does before he gets the ball and what he does off it that puts him in that elite prospect class.

Latu needs to find his voice. he's also quite introspective from what I've seen. definitely more of a confidence player than Galvin from what I've seen, who tends to have the ability to flush what he did previously.

that's what sets them apart.
If he can finally get on the paddock and stay there for a while he might develop better communication skills.
I think he hasn't been there long enough compared to Galvan to make a judgement call just yet.

Also how do you

katoa is a gun, if he was off contract I’d be chasing him no matter what!
He is the only other half I would commit another million dollars into locking up. We would have 2.15 mill in our 2 starting halves but the combo of Luai and Katoa would be premiership material. Katoa is the Nathan Cleary Rival for the next decade for the games best halfback. Awesome player with an amazing league I.q.

All good ... I managed to.

...

Pearce-Paul is off contract at the end of the season and is being heavily pursued by at least one NRL club who has already tabled a big offer to try and prise him out of Newcastle.

It's understood the Knights have told his agent the club is not prepared to match the rival deal, leaving Pearce-Paul's future up in the air. The expectation currently among club officials is that he will leave.

While the identity of the rival club is not known, there has been speculation the Wests Tigers are one of a number of clubs to have expressed interest.

Complicating the negotiations is Pearce-Paul's current contract, which is worth around $750,000 this season.

While he has played consistently well and the Knights would ideally like to keep him, it's hard to argue he is worth anything like his current price. To remain in Newcastle, he would have to agree to take a huge pay-cut.

The Knights' other priority signings are a front rower and an outside back.
