Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’m loving the Claw.
But has to play his best to meet value I do see that.
Easy player to like. Plays with a lot of emotion. Puts his hand up for tough carries. Good finisher who gets low and physical to cross the line. I do see the qualities.

But I also see:
That emotion has resulted in poor discipline at times. His backfield work is overstated as his carries are rarely impactful. He only has the one option as a finisher to get low. He doesn't have the acrobatics of other wingers. Defenders know he can only beat them one way.
Add in the generally poor defence and at times poor kick defusal.

Yeah, potentially the surrounding dramas are impacting performance more than the positives of Luai's leadership. Hopefully we see them move past it when Galvin is gone. I'm not saying they can't/won't prove to be fantastic signings (though personally I don't see it in Turuva). Just they have not yet provided any return on investment that can be considered good value.
Why dont you see it in Turuva?
I can think of one or two quiet games he had and one disaster (Melbourne rd9). The rest of the time he has been quite strong I think.
His stats:
  • 6th comp wide for Top try scorer with 9
  • 13th comp wide for Linebreaks with 9
  • His PCMs are within 100m of May's and 60m of Pole's
  • He is second in the club for Tackle breaks behind May
  • 44th comp wide for most runs
  • 37th comp wide for most meters
He needs to work on kick defusal defence and kick return involvement but apart from that, he is one of the better performed wingers in the comp so far.

We sign either of them, we lose Latu.

Neither are back ups and both would walk into a starting role on decent coin.

We need a reasonable price back up in the likes of Tyrone May or Dion Teaupa.... or as rumoured, Jonah Glover [Dragons NSW cup]

I also think Krystian Mapapalangi could be an option for 6 but is more suited to centre.

We also need to strengthen other areas which we won't be able to do if we drop big coin on Sexton or Sandon.
Yes, drop big coin on Smith but why waste money on Sexton.

*edit, I read your post above. Some good points there. He certainly has weak areas in his game that he needs to work on.

Was that one of those rare occasions that Unca Wayne was seen laughing?

Not sure if he was laughing at the prospect of Bud staying at Souffs or more likely laughing at the Wests Tigers for getting themselves into just another dumb predicament.
Excuse me, but didn't Wayne find himself in a similar position a couple of months ago.

Fair enough. I'm genuinely curious what you see that says otherwise? Not to be argumentative but to know what you're seeing that I am not.
Fair question mate

I'm seeing a core being established of solid winners.
Luai .... I agree his on field performance has been good not great. What i see however is a culture changer and a guy that lives the 1%ers. He single handily has had a large number of defensive efforts that have saved tries or games. We haven't had a person do that in years.

Turva again a culture setter. And an absolutely outstanding finisher. He has scored so many tries he had no right too. Defensively had a few shockers granted but usually hustles back and always scambles.

Bird is a good.mister fix it and is one of the few we have that uses his shoulder in defence. Does make some bone head plays but is clearly a first grader which is something we lack.

Hunt questionable! is great for 15 mins but has disappointed me in longevity.

The fainus are babies and i feel like ooze potential. Samuela another dude that uses his shoulder and runs hard still learning his role imo. But love what I see.

Latu looks electric but needs time on the field probably the most disappointing but that's mainly due to lack of durability.

I guess everyone you have mentioned to me has bought in. Our problems imo is we don't have enough first graders yet. I think that takes time due to shipping people out and not buying plebs.

I feel like we have like 10 real good first graders and a whole lot of nothing after that.

The guys you mentioned and all first graders is some capacity which is why I disagree, they will all be better with a helpful supporting cast.

In the end benji, luai and to a lesser exstent may and tuaruva are changing the culture which has been a.constant problem for us think nofo issues etc.

I think we are on the way up but like I said we are still a fair few first graders short.

Sorry for the essay

I’m so tired like you mate ..this past 10 years has been exhausting and I’m not getting any younger ..

There is no bigger critic here then me in respect of moving on Blore…but he was @BAGNF05 original plasticine man… although he was unluckily doing acl’s and not having dodgy hamstrings at 19 which I see as quite different injury types …Like I said ….they will need to pivot elsewhere if they bring Latu back this year and he gets injured again…Im hoping this is not the case as Latu seems to have some talent if he can stay on the field … but as they say, the best ability is availability…
Blore is playing his role very nicely at the Storm and good on him. His four years here he was made of plasticine. Maybe it was just our culture and taking a few weeks off seemed the better option at times?

Seems nobody is immune from criticism on this forum, even the good ones.

Don't be sorry, loved the essay.
Honestly I don't disagree with a single thing you have written. Buy in and culture are all important and I agree it appears to be something all are delivering.
Again I agree all are/will be genuine first graders. I don't want to suggest none will prove to be very good players for the club in the future. My only point of contention, and it appears you may somewhat agree given you have noted some of their individual weaknesses, is they aren't yet.

My opinion is they are not currently performing to their value, without regard for what they may one day produce.

You appear to be putting more stock in what they look likely to do with the right supporting cast given they have the all important building blocks of ability and attitude. I don't disagree with that.
